Well here we are parked on one of our favourite perches by Crosby Coastguard Station: it’s blowing a gale but the sun is shining. I thought it would be quiet but it’s packed, I had a job finding a space. Midge popped out for a pee but couldn’t wait to get back in. We are lucky to be able to do this whilst self isolating wish I could invite some who can’t to join us.

Don, Midge and the knitted ones.😘xxx

I'm glad to see you and Midge are getting out and about for the moment Don. Icons know about you but I don't like being indoors for long. The dreadful weather we have experienced the last few months has had the affect of us having to stay indoors a great deal. Anyway, I went for a short drive to a quiet area where theres a lighthouse overlooking the sea. I parked the car and took a lovely walk., it was so bracing. The sun was out, the sky was blue and I felt better for just being outdoors. Keep warm and safe. Chrys x

in reply to RoadRunner44

I'm home again now and feel totally rejuvenated without even getting out of the campervan. The wind was blowing hard but the sun was shining and the world seemed a better place. 🚐😁x

I know exactly how you feel Don. I'm not sure if its acceptable for us to continue doing this but it will keep me sane if I can. X

in reply to RoadRunner44

Probably won't be acceptable. We could breakdown, need fuel, involved in an accident and many others occasions would make it impossible to avoid contact. 😕x

I’m just wondering how lovely Midge reaches the pedals to drive. 😂

She’s so lovely and seems really happy. Glad you got out. We could also go and park by the sea one day soon.

Take care Don, Midge and the knitted ones. Xxxx

in reply to sassy59

Midge doesn't need to reach the pedals, she's got some chauffeur chappie to do it for her. I haven't been short of places to go to during winter, I think I've eaten out more in the last 2 or 3 months than ever before. It's that feeling of freedom that bucks me up. 😊😘x

Of course she has, silly me 😃

You enjoy your freedom Don. Just be careful. Xxx 💖😘

We took our dog Bella to a local country park for a walk. Its easy to keep 6 feet away from people, though there arent many there when we go. It was a cold wind but the sunshinecwas nicecand raised my spirits. There are plenty of benches for when I need to catch my breath. My feeling if we are forced to be isilated in our homes is that we should be allowed to go out in tbe car even if it is to just sit in the car and enjoy the views. Im sure we would be able to avoid social contact with people. Long may we all manage to get out and enjoy some fresh air, even if we have to stay in our gardens.

Awww Midge looks hot with his tongue out panting, or did you take him on a run? Lovely to be out by the sea x

in reply to Izb1

She had just been out for a run around and emptied her water bowl . She's knocking on a bit and listening to her breathing at night makes me think she has a touch of COPD herself.

Hi Don, lovely to see you and Midge are getting out. You are lucky to have your campervan - you can go and stay wherever you want, for as long as you want (as long as you can buy supplies!). And thank you for posting; you gave us all cause for concern the other day with your farewell poem. Like a rock star giving a farewell tour!! 😎🤩

You don't always have to write in rhyme,

As long as you check in from time to time.

We want to know that you're ok,

So please, dear Don - we hope you stay

Take care. Love and virtual hugs (at least 2 Mtrs apart at all times). Jackie xx

Or we could acknowledge each other with a smile and a wink (carefully typed that one), as suggested by our vicar recently instead of 'passing the peace' at church. That comment raised a few smiles and eyebrows 😯 She is obviously a forward thinking modern vicar 😂

in reply to OOB_Tigger

I know, I've said I'm retiring a few times now and I honestly think I have finally reached the end. But then something happens to perk me up and like a clockwork toy I'm at it all over again. Some day my spring will break............🤣

If your spring breaks you'll have to use an elastic band or a space-hopper (remember those?) Just keep bouncing back dear Don. Perhaps your knitted friends might burst into verse! xx

A lovely sunny day here on the south coast too. The harbour area was packed with visitors and all the kiosks seemed to be doing a good trade. Fairly windy and we watched 2 hang-gliders flying around above the cliffs. Wonderful to be able to fly like that, but I don't think I'd ever have had the courage to jump off a cliff into the wind.

I was about to tell you we planned to be in Southport at the weekend, but my son has just phoned to say better not. We are not a panicky family but my grandson's school has notified parents that the father of one child is having to self-isolate, though they are not intending to close the school at the moment.

I was in two minds about this trip (booked 2 months ago) anyway. There's no way I could maintain a six foot distance from my cuddly 5 year old grandson, so probably best for all to stay away. :(

in reply to jabber

Southport seafront was packed with campervans on Sunday, hundreds parked on the seawall. No idea what that was about.

Badbessie profile image

I am envious Don. I love the visiting the coast.

in reply to Badbessie

I've always lived by the sea, I like visiting the hills and mountains. One of my mates had a Landrover marked 'Southport Mountain Rescue Team', as a joke, it's as flat as a fluke for miles and miles around.

Very glad you enjoyed your day out and shared it with us. I have been thinking about still being able to have a drive out in the coming months. Never crossed my mind about breaking down or being involved in an accident. One could drive one's self nuts thinking about it all.

Hope you continue to enjoy trips out without any untoward hiccups

Jaybird19 profile image
Jaybird19 in reply to CDPO16

Trouble is with car standing around , not driven battery goes flat . If you drive then you have to get petrol and . ? queue to pay. What to do?

I have to drive to get away from people to get some exercise have been trying to walk on spot to keep muscles working but keep forgetting.

in reply to Jaybird19

I got the camper filled up thinking fuel could become difficult to get, I will not travel far from home till this is over. It is also plugged into electrics whilst in my drive which charges both large batteries. Most petrol pumps have pay at the pump facilities might be okay to use. It’s going to be a case of playing everything by ear. There ‘s plenty of advice on what we should do but very little on how to do it.

CDPO16 profile image
CDPO16 in reply to Jaybird19

Like Don, we have the pay at the pump option at a garage near us. So far the advice is that it's ok to go out to exercise as long as you are able to keep a safe distance from other people. There are many exercises one can do indoors other than walking to help. The BLF have a free DVD of exercises, if you weren't already aware of it. Hope you find a method of using your car and exercising that suits you.

Jaybird19 profile image
Jaybird19 in reply to CDPO16

Thanks for the pay at pump .great exercises . I try to stand on landing so i can take weight of my back and do the steps like little trampoline in hosp gym i do have a house with 3 floors ,2 flights of stairs and a forgetful mind so am up and down all the time thanks for the rest to do

CDPO16 profile image
CDPO16 in reply to Jaybird19

I can't help but think that going up and down 2 flights of stairs will go a long way to help in keeping yourself fit. Best wishes xx

I’m waiting for a warm non busy day. It takes me45 mins to get there. I just love the fresh sea air. I get to the point about every 4months when I become obsessive about getting there. I’ll look out for your campervan and wave. So if you see a 74 yr old , with cannula waving madly about 6ft from you -wave back

Xx

in reply to Jomo46

I most certainly will. A very fit elderly lady walked past my van yesterday where I was parked and gave me a lovely smile. It made me wonder if it was someone from here. Isn't it strange how a pleasant smile from a stranger can give you such a lift. 😁x

Very true Don. Little things mean a lot. A couple of years ago when I was huffing and puffing very slowly on my way back to the car after a walk, a man sat in a parked car near mine gave me a knowing smile. Helped a lot.

Top man Mr D and Midge and the woollen girls! Great photo with the view and also Midge showing us her best side for the camera. Good for you and thats the beauty of having a Campervan . Safe return. 🐿💕

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

Midge loves the campervan were the windows come lower down than in the car. She can see out even when lying down. 😉

SquirrelsHolt profile image
SquirrelsHolt in reply to

Morning Mr.D and I'm playing catch-up from yesterdays posts. Am I right in visualizing little Midge on the passenger seat, weather permitting, putting her head out the window to enjoy the breeze etc? Stay safe on your journeys my friend 😀🐿💕

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

She sits in the passenger seat with her harness/seatbelt on, often with the window open but never allowed to stick her head out. When we stop, of course, the vehicle becomes her home and she's free to roam. I don't know for how long I'll be able to drive to places, being highly vulnerable on both age and health counts I'm supposed to be in total isolation. No doubt the government have plans to remove my decomposed body at some time in the future. 🙄😘

SquirrelsHolt profile image
SquirrelsHolt in reply to

Oh less of the negativity Mr.D.! I hope Midge can't read as she'd be most upset. Whilst you are in your campervan surely that still counts as isolation? (Unless you actually are having wild parties, filling the campervan and surrounding area, full of party goers. I'm thinking on the lines of festivals like Glastonbury, lol). 😂💕

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

When everything works as it should then the campervan is as secure as my house. But if something goes wrong there would be a problem. A puncture, a traffic accident, police stop me for some reason, there are many things which could cause me to leave the van. So there's a risk there which I will play by ear. Sorry about my dark humour. ☠😂😘

SquirrelsHolt profile image
SquirrelsHolt in reply to

No apologies needed Mr.D. ...a bit of dark humour is humour and in our world right now we need all the humour we can get!😂🐿💕

Oh Don ,live not far from Crosby beach ,lovely spot. Was down there on Sunday as had visitors from Germany ,they thought it was beautiful ,say hello to midge x

We could organise a meet there and have an ox roast or something. The sound of our joint coughing could clear the place very quickly. 😂

Hello Midge and Don and knitted ones. We've just been out for a walk but we don't have a nice beach nearby. Chom made his usual inspections of every flower bed (especially the mucky looking ones) but ignored the beautiful flower beds in front of the police station 👮. Under par he said they were. 😲 Glad you are getting out a bit. xx ❤️🐕

in reply to Caspiana

Midge misses out on the flower watering business, she never mastered the leg lifting. It must feel wonderful for you being able to walk Chom, reaping the rewards time, eh? I hope you continue to improve, you deserve it. 😀😘x

Hi Just wondered if Midge was driving you home. He looks quite happy behind the wheel lol 😂. Have a good day.

in reply to

Ooo sorry Don . Just saw that Midge is a girl. Please shake her paw 🐾 as my apology.

in reply to

Don’t worry about it. I think she gets a bit confused about her gender herself the way that she behaves with a cushion that falls on the floor. 🥺

in reply to

Aw bless. I know a black Labrador girly dog who does the same thing with her toys 🧸. 🤭

Well Don finally found your post and what a long thread! You’re so popular. I’ve always wanted to go to Crosby beach because I’d love to see the Anthony Gormley statues. It looks so beautiful. You are so lucky to live near there and also to have a camper van so you can go off with Midge and the 2 girls in safety.

Take care
