I agree with you. So many people have travelled from Italy in the past couple of weeks, and tested positive for corona virus. From what I have read, there are 0 health checks at Heathrow, so people just come from Italy (or any other affected country), and go about their daily business until they start showing symptoms. And by then they have been in close contact with God knows how many others. It is sad to see that the economic interests are placed before health interests. There should be more proactivity rather than reactivity.

Yes. Totally agree. Even now school skiing trips are being allowed in the next week or 2 to go ahead to N. ITALY. Nonsensical! Children may not be affected but they will pass it on before symptoms are recognised.

May just as well ask people to willingly stop travelling. Wish they would. Wish everyone did wash their hands, wish everyone did stay at home and not spread around the winter bugs. Wish mothers kept their kids home when they were full of cold and coughs.

There is a directive but again its down to individuals willing to respect the directive and risk to others if they don't;

The directive is:

Returning travellers

Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people if you’ve travelled to the UK from the following places in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms:

Iran

Hubei province in China

lockdown areas in northern Italy

special care zones in South Korea

Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people if you’ve travelled to the UK from the following places in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath, even if your symptoms are mild:

mainland China outside of Hubei province

Italy outside of the lockdown areas

South Korea outside of the special care zones

Cambodia

Hong Kong

Japan

Laos

Macau

Malaysia

Myanmar

Singapore

Taiwan

Thailand

Vietnam

It's not just these countries now it's everywhere ,

in reply to Colliesam

precisely - but I thought you were talking about safeguarding our Island. Its not all down to governments, health care, it is also down to personal responsibility of travellers and even non travellers!

Government should be doing more ,not just maybe all the time ,maybe they need to follow other countries for a change ,Bethlehem had 7 cases now on lock down ,how many people have to get it or die before this government acts responsible

in reply to Colliesam

and people need to be more responsible - I think the Health Minister said, we should all be pulling together as a nation to get the country through this..

Yes true people have to be responsible for themselves, but most only think of themselves, most are frightened of the outcome which I suppose all are

Well in the sun ,said that as from next week OAP going into lockdown, just have to wait and see what happens

The Sun: what a great authority on the facts. The only paper I know of boycotted by an entire city - after the lies they told about Liverpool fans at the Hillsborough disaster. It's not even sold in Tesco's apparently. Sorry, I dont mean to be mean but when I hear someone is reading this toxic rag, it pushes buttons.

It's not practical I'm afraid. How many employers would give their staff at least a week off with a cold? My last job was with the DWP. If anyone was off sick for more than 8 days a year with a common illness they started issuing disciplinary letters. All staff had to go in with colds and even flu, including me with a severe chest infection. Don't blame the workers.

Not blaming the workers ,just feel more should have been done from the start, government knew what was coming

You said you wished everyone would be responsible and stay at home. I merely pointed out one reason people can't. Also if everyone did we would all starve, there would be no meds, no doctors, no shops open etc.

I wish people would stop panicking and stop their knee jerk reactions. Perhaps those who are panicking should isolate themselves and leave the rest of us alone to get on with our lives in peace?

I think by staying home it is more about travelling when not absolutely necessary (e. g. medical appointments). Are school skiing trips so essential that they are worth risking getting corona virus and bringin it back to the UK? Or going on cruise ships? Or going to a huge dog show? People just aren't sensible and responsible enough hence the government should impose certain rules and limitations.

The sun says OAP going into lockdown next week sometime

It's not just down to the government we all need to be sensible and not travel . Yes it is hard but if we want to keep our island safe we have to do our bit. My daughter and her three children were going to see friends in London at Easter, but has decided to stay at home which I'm pleased about. They would have had to travel by coach but like my daughter said she could not take the risk. Ok she wasn't just thinking about her family but all those they would come into contact with. I'm proud she thought of others.xxx

My cousin came here from Australia for three weeks to see her mother (my aunt) who died 5minutes before she arrived.

She went home three weeks later via Dubai. She had two N95 masks to wear at all the airports. She said Sydney airport was already taking precautions.

But people from Mainland China were allowed in providing they were Australian Citizens. How crazy is that???
