Sometimes these bugs are hard to shift and it gets very frustrating. I’m a strong believer in natural ways to strengthen our lungs (and the threat of coronavirus makes this even more important) so steaming and using a salt pipe could help a lot.
I also use high dose vitamins C and D, NAC to thin the mucus and Elderberry tincture. Some people benefit from Mullein tincture too I think.
But I’m also wondering if you should have your sputum tested to make sure you get the right antibiotic too?
Hello Wendy, We are all in the same boat and can only follow the guidelines given us. As we have no control of matters It really is a case of wait and see. In the meantime we have to do our best to ensure we wash our hands diligently, eat healthily and if possible exercise. I expect you keep a rescue pack at home, in the event you contract a lung infection.
I am attending a pulmonary rehabilitation course and we were all discussing these issues. Just this week. The physio. explained the importance of exercise of any kind. Even hoovering! Huffing is a method and something you can do very easily to bring up mucous. Two members in the group are only able to exercise sitting but it was amazing how easily they were able to huff and cough up the phlegm afterwards. There are a number of ways to expell the nasty stuff. If you don't know the method ask your doctor to refer you to a physio to show you how to do it. In the meantime go on the British LungFoundation website and they will talk you through it.
I know it's futile to tell you not to worry, but worrying uses energy. Try to do things to take your mind off the news and let's hope it will be good news soon.
I had the exactly the same thing around 6 weeks before xmas last year I had the most awful chest infection had 3 lots of antibiotics, 2 lot of steroids and nebulisers (after I ended up in the hospital with my asthma hugely affected by all this.
Then just after xmas ended up with pleurisy after a week of that I had about 5 days break and the pleurisy was back again and a week and half after that ended up with a blood clot in the lung. There seems to be allot of the similar thing going around as the girl in the cubicle next to me had exactly the same history as me.
This all started the end of November and by end of Jan I was at long starting to feel I was getting better. Even now I have days were I go backwards and the cough will start to sound chesty again but after a few days it seems to get better. I still can feel where the pleurisy was on deep breaths its not painful but just can feel tight in that area.
The respiratory doctor I am under has told me it will take me the same duration I was ill for me to start feeling back to my normal self.
