PIP assessment advice required

Hello,

I am just writing here to ask if anyone can advise me about what to expect during a PIP assessment. I applied for the claim form some time ago now, and remembered when it came a piece of advice about getting the Citizens Advice Bureau to assist in completing it.

As most people will know now you can no longer just walk into aCAB office and join a queue, in short I looked up their advice line regarding PIP form and filled it in myself.

Having sent it back by the due date I sat back for the long wait, a couple of days ago a letter telling me I would need to attend an assessment dropped in the post.

The date was for 8th June, at 11:45, the next bit I had to read and re-read. The venue is to be my home address. I think I am happy about this because all the equipment I have I will be able to show. Wheelchair ,walker, nebuliser, disabled bathroom, Hostpital bed blood pressure cuff etc. All of which I have had to purchase myself. Also of course I will not have to travel to the assessment.

I would appreciate if anyone can tell me their experience, and outcome. Wish me luck.

Cheers

Chris

Welcome 'home' Chris!

Sorry, I know little about pip but loads of members do so you'll soon get lots of info. Plus there is the benefits helpline, 03000 030555, office hours. Peege

Hi

Useful read may help.

Explain rather than show the equipment, they may presume your walking abilities are better than stated. Tell it as it is, not how you would like it to be.

Good luck.

I hope all goes well xx

tell them how you use all your equipment, 'aides' to do things in your daily life. If you can cook a meal, but need to use your walker or another piece of equipment to do so, tell them, don't just say you can cook a meal. this applies to all daily tasks, make sure they understand when you need an aide to complete a task. Think about your bad days explain what you can't do then, or what aides you use to make it possible. I was very surprised that using oxygen was considered an aide, and although I don't need help to get dressed or do anything really, I explained that I have to use oxygen to help with my breathing, while doing things. the report came back with a care element of PIP included which I did not expect, but it is because I use an aide to complete tasks.

hope this helps

Be aware that as you have purchased most of your aids yourself they will likely disregard them as non medical, as they haven't been prescribed to you.
