Hi lovely people

I have my appointment at the royal Brompton Hospital on Monday an all day jobbie, but my wife cannot accompany me? As it's an early morning pick up from Wickford to the horses piddle.

Trouble is I do have anxiety problems, and my wife asks all the right questions, where as I forget lots of things.

Anyway I hope that I can finally get to the root cause of the problem with my lungs. I have heard some stories about medication that leaves you with terrible dioreah etc.

Think I will take my chances with just the oxygen! I do seem to have to kee it on for longer than I used to. I liken it to a slow puncture, but the hole is getting bigger. Lol

Take care my lovelies and a Happy new year and may God bless you all.

Could your wife write a list of questions for you to read out to the doctor you will be seeing?

Is there anyone who can accompany you? It’s always good to have a second pair of ears and eyes. Write things down that you feel are relevant plus any questions you might want to ask.

The Brompton is a good hospital and you’ll be well cared for. Try not to worry. Xxxxx

As Sassy said, can someone else go with you, a friend or neighbor, even if they don’t know the right questions to ask, just to be there for moral support. Also like Poems said, take a list of questions or things you want to say, and take a pen to write down anything you think you won’t remember or take in. If it’s too overwhelming to make notes, as long as you’re not asking for an essay, pass your pen and paper to the doctor and say can you write that down for me please. I have done that before! I know I’m too overwhelmed to remember names or terms or whatever.

Good luck for the appointment, I hope it goes well.

Hi Oldspark

You don’t say if it’s your first consultation with this particular consutant. Good idea of Poems for your wife to write down some relevant questions and you might have some of your own. I would say though write them down as bullet points or you might get a bit lost. You could well find the consultant covers some of the questions before you even ask.

Good luck - you may be surprised by how well you manage.

Whenever I see my consultant I go with a list of questions. He usually takes it off me and as he is replying writes the important stuff down. My brain turns to mush in any medical situation!😀💕

You should write out a list of all of the questions you have ahead of time so you don’t forget to ask anything and if you have a smart phone maybe voice record the appointment so you don’t forget anything you were told which can be easy to do if you are asking lots of questions.

Hi lovely people and thank you for the advise, I managed to write down all the questions for the specialist, but left it at home, fortunately I remembered the important ones, but the outcome of the consultation was not as hoped it would be. I was under the impression that I had a good few years left, as I am only 73, but it's actually months that I have left, I told my wife and children, and now have to get my affairs in order.

But a big thanks to this community for support, you really are the best.

Very sorry to hear that. Why such a short time? Is it COPD or something else?

Pulmonary fibrosis in an advanced stage, scarring is quite extensive so I am given to understand. But I am a positive person. Thanks for asking.
