Every year they have one
And they always end in tears
As people eat and drink too much
And overcome their fears
The good old office boss is there
And no longer seems so fierce
They think he seems so friendly
That his armour has been pierced
The girls all crowd around him
Flirting all the time
The men get over friendly
Thinking upwards they will climb
Too late they all will realise
When the food and drink has gone
They'll wish they'd kept their mouths shut
Merry Christmas every one.

I reckon in an earlier life that Don was really the boss
And as for xmas parties he couldn't give a toss
He watched them flirt and giggle and all get off their face
Then the next day in the office he put them all back in their place
Am i close to the truth Master Po?

I experienced many many office Christmas Office parties over the years, Grasshopper, and they were all a PITA.😂

I had to decline invitations on the grounds that i would have one too many and attack the management, thankfully at the beginning of my career not many people wanted a verbal scrap at the top of a telegraph pole.

I'm still giggling Don. My friend just called in to see me and I showed your poem. OMG she said, that brings back a lot of unhappy memories! We are now talking about memories past and having a giggle together. Thanks for the memory...........

I was never a boss, but often had juniors who I had to supervise. One year the "do" ended and I had to give a junior a lift home, she was too drunk to drive, and had to roll her out of the car and into her flat. I wonder if she realised this was not the best way to endear herself to someone, when she had only been in the job for one week.

Goats
Trotting through the dusk on that deserted country lane,
a sight I'd never seen before - nor never will again,
as if by magic there suddenly appeared
a host of hairy goats, unusual and weird.
The big orange leader inspected his troops,
made them form lines, sorted them in groups,
marched up and down like a sergeant at roll-call
I'd swear on my life he inspected them all.
A fat multi-coloured chap with horns that curled round.
A scrawny old bill with a beard down to the ground.
A milk laden nanny, two kids close behind
bickering and snickering (they had an axe to grind).
Elegant twins with hooves painted pink
and roses twined around their ears (at least that's what I think).
They came in their fives and they came in their tens,
they stretched so far along the road, I couldn't see the end.
So where were they headed, this brightly coloured throng?
Straight past me and towards the pub that I'd just staggered from.

😃 I love it.
It was the Christmas party
Hidden was there.
I asked why don’t you write a poem
About ‘ghosts’ that’s if you dare
Alas my old spell checker
Was acting in a strange way
And that is how we got this lovely poem
On ‘goats’ you read today.

Love it Don made me laugh. Had to think twice what pita meant thought it was a spelling mistake as we have an animal welfare organisation called peta.

We had one manager who used to say, 'What's said and done at the party stays at the party.' and she meant it too as she liked a good drink and often spoke out of turn! xx Moy
