Immunotherapy is providing tremendous promise in the new era of cancer treatment. Checkpoint inhibitors and adoptive T cell transfer therapy have shown improved survival in melanoma, non-small-cell lung cancer, and renal cell cancer patients1,2. However, only a fraction of patients benefit from immunotherapy, and lack of specific tumor targeting is frequently associated with immune-related toxicity. Thus, many attempts are being made to improve anticancer immunity while reducing adverse effects.
