When you have visitors

And you are very old

Relatives in particular

Can get rather bold

This is rather nice I see

Have you had it long

Do you use it anymore

To sell it would be wrong

I've always wanted one of these

I think it oh so nice

I bet you couldn't buy one now

No matter what the price

I see you have a lawnmower

That looks quite okay

Oh you have a gardener

Then is this in your way?

Your dog Midge just growled at me

She never liked me much

She doesn't mind you looking says I

But she says you mustn't touch.

Good for Midge! A faithful friend... And guard dog!

I hope this rhyme isn't too autobiographical though 😟

β€’ in reply toHungryHufflepuff

I detected a slight feeling that way then I'm afraid my imagination ran wild. 😁

Well done Midge stand up for your master

She is prepared to do that alright. I had forgotten that I had written about visitors before.

Good on you Midge protecting You Master Don. My Princess does the same, Not with Children though, as she thinks she's just a Little Girl to play with. XXX

Never complain of visitors who eye up all your stuff

It's when nobody visits that it leaves you feeling duff

Someone can look upon me and my things with feelings of desire

Maybe then my spirits would be raised a little higher

Scruffy never hisses at those that come through the door

Except if it's that old geezer from Air Liquide she dislikes more and more

And people like the nurse who always says that she will call

Then telephones instead and as usual does bugger all

But i suppose one can't complain if life is a bit crap

When your four legged companion is always sat upon your lap. :) x

Grasshopper, that is brilliant! Tomorrow the topic will be about a Lollypop Lady, see what you can do with that. I shall look forward to it. 😁x

I am of course referring to you and it is i who must do the bowing and stooping, only both my back and knees are not in the best shape at the moment so perhaps having already received your knighthood a mere nod will suffice. :)

I just hate it when people do that - talk about vultures . . . sorry was that too nasty?

β€’ in reply tomajji

No I don't think so, but that person was only in my mind. Come to think of it, I might even be guilty of of eyeing up some things myself in the past. πŸ˜•

My family are into minimalism so I reckon they only eye up my stuff to see how many skips to order in the future.

I am a magpie , an inveterate collector of other peoples stuff that’s discarded. Charity shops and eBay.

Fantastic poem, Don......you have the knack of observation, a real people watcher.

β€’ in reply toknitter

I'm afraid I'm going to leave a bit of a mess behind. I have offered to leave instructions to have a house clearance firm to deal with it, I can do no more. I'd take it with me if I could. 🀣

Well I got my just punishment for something of the like this morning. My next door neighbour died last week, which was very sad but expected. His niece gave me the shed key yesterday and said there is an electric wheelchair in there if I wanted it, which I thought my sister would. After putting the bin back in his garden I decided to have a look at this only to slip and fall and hurt my shoulder yet again. The wheelchair is too big and heavy and hasnt been cleaned in years, so maybe something was telling me not to be like a vulpture when a dear neighbour has just died x

majji profile image
majjiβ€’ in reply toIzb1

Oh dear Izb1 - I am sorry to hear that, hope you recover from that accident soon - I am sure vulture does not apply to you as you were thinking of something to benefit your sister - I am consider good samaritan would surely be more apt!

My family don’t want any of our old tat. We’ve just cleared my old mum’s house, as she’s gone into a home. My dad spent years making things, furniture, toys, models etc, but the children have small homes and big families, so don’t want anything either. Such a shame to see it all go...

My husband's aunt used to insist that we took something away with us when we visited! It was embarrassing as she would often say, 'Oh, so and so gave us that. We've never liked it!' The offending article would be thrust into our hands and we'd be stuck with it. We always dreaded that relatives would call on us and see the things in our house. We couldn't get rid of them as said aunt would look for them when she visited us!! xx Moy
