Hi was diagnosed with moderate COPD just over 3 years ago, had to go to the doctors on Tuesday with a cough, a lot of mucus and a sore chest, he told me I had a bacterial infection and prescribed me antibiotics and steroid tablets, the thing is I seem to be feeling worse instead of better, when I went to see the Doc it was just my chest was sore now it's moved into my back, do I give the tablets time to work or should I get checked out again xx

Hi! Usually once you start the antibiotics and steroids you would be feeling a little better in 24 to 48 hours...at least I do. If nothing is starting to work, you may have to go back to your doctor’s office. Good luck and feel better soon!🙂

Hi Annie, the tablets do take a few days to work but if you are worried give your gp a call. Hope you get better soon x

Sometimes a treatment seems to take a while to start working. Also antibiotics and steroids can have horrible side effects. Sometimes I joke to myself that these don't actually cure anything but make you feel so ill that it takes your mind off the original illness. But if you continue to feel worse it could be worth asking if these medications are working for you. I hope you start to feel better soon.

It may not be the right antibiotic for your infection. I would check it out with your GP. xx Moy

Hi there Annie911 and sorry to learn you're poorly at the moment. MoyB is right in suggesting that maybe your not on the right antibiotics,so I'd give your GP a call ,as being a Friday, you may well need to give them a sputum sample so it can be tested etc. Presumably you started your meds on Tuesday so by now you should've seen some improvement. Good luck and best wishes.💞

If the tablets are steroids and you use them for a long period of time that could be bad for you. Your doctor should have given you Albuteral inhaler. If he wanted to give you steroids you should us it in inhaler not pills. Pills are for people in final stage of COPD my doctor said. So if your using steroids in pill form dont use them for very long.

Make sure your GP tests your sputum for the type of infection- different antibiotics may be needed- and make sure you take them for long enough- sometimes a week doesn’t work in COPD and you may need a few weeks of them to kill off infections- good luck 👍 Tell your GP and don’t take any nonsense!
