Three loads of antibiotics in two months - think that's my record! Sometimes they are the "wrong ones", infection is deep-seated and needs an extra dose to fight it off or just me being my damned awkward self!

Agree with the others - another trip to the GP will sort it out ... sooner rather than later (don't accept an appointment in three weeks time!)

Best wishes

Beware of inappropriately prescribed antibiotics.

My health, and that of my wife, is seriously damaged probably permanently from antibiotics.

Some antibiotics are life-saving - but inappropriate use of antibiotics and other medical drugs is a scourge.

Recovering gut health is vital - two things that helped us are very high qualities and varieties of probiotics and bone broth - there are many other things that can help - but getting serious improvements might take months or years. QUOTE: "Antibiotics are useless against viral infections. This is because viruses are so simple that they use their host cells to perform their activities for them. So antiviral drugs work differently to antibiotics, by interfering with the viral enzymes instead."

Why do doctors hand out antibiotics for viral infections? 1) They don't realize how serious are the consequences and 2) they until now have no simple test to determine if an ailment is bacterial or viral.

Doctors experimented with 3 powerful broad-spectrum antibiotics one after the other for a very bad cough I had without knowing if it was bacterial or viral - a year later I am still trying to fully recover.

A healthy gut is the key. The good bacteria in the gut is what gets wiped out as well as the bad ones with inappropriate use.

Good luck.

Hi Stephen. There has been a serious chest infection doing the rounds, I've had it and it isn't at all pleasant. Cough, exhaustion, VERY painful chest wall. In my case it lasted for 4 weeks and then gradually disappeared. I wasn't given antibiotics. It's possible that it is viral- and antibiotics don't do a thing for viral infections. Drs. sometimes prescribe antibiotics in case you get a secondary, bacterial infection because your immune system is knocked out by the virus. Best to check it out with your doctor.

Last year I had a severe upper respiratory infection. It lasted a long time. I finally went to see a cardiologist and found out I had developed pericarditis -- it is the inflammation of the outer wall of the heart. It can be dangerous if not treated. The symptoms are difficulty breathing and I felt worse lying down. I had a pain in the middle of my chest -- and stopped me from taking a full breath. Check with a cardiologist if you don't improve.

Hi,

If you go to hospital, they will be able to do all the tests (x-rays, blood test etc) there and, if it is viral, there are antiviral medications out there. Also with all the coughing you may have injured your ribs, so you need to check with a doctor.

You made need to do a sputum test to see which infection you have and then get the right antibiotic to treat it,certain infections do not respond to some antibiotics, good luck, hope you feel better soon.
