Hello Dennis,
Actually everyone's oxygen levels drop during sleep. Probably even more so if we have a chronic lung condition like you do. We also take slower breaths when we are asleep. I think if your saturation remains in the 90s you need not be too concerned. Lying flat may also make it a bit harder to breathe. I know I can't lie flat. I don't think we can compare our sats with other people and expect the exact same results as we are all so different.
You should be concerned if you are waking up with a headache, nausea, rapid breathing or confusion. Then you may need a sleep study.
Best wishes,
Cas xx 🍀
thank you for the reply..... i dont feel like it is hard to breathe when i lay down and i dont wake up with headaches... but it just concerns me that while just sitting or laying down very mellow i seem to be breathing slower and not to deep i look at the puse ox and it reads low .. so then i will take a deep breathe or cough and my sats go back up for a few seconds then back down only go up when i yawn or cough or take a deeper breathe..plus i get extreme tiredness alot can harldy ever stay up to watch a game or movie on tv without falling asleep with major tiredness
I think if you feel this is a new development you should talk to your doctor about it. Sitting here on my couch I also feel that my breaths are slower and much more suttle when just at rest. I think taking a big breath would definitely make a difference to your numbers if you have been just sitting for a bit. Your lungs would expand and you'd be taking in more oxygen. Coughing and yawning would also cause you to inhale more. Coughing would also clear your airways.
The tiredness , if new, you definitely need to talk about. He may need to run tests to see if your condition has worsened. And if so maybe you need a medication review. Hopefully it could be the colder weather. I believe cold dry air can narrow the airways further.👋😃
