Very important news for those that take it, thanks for posting. Thankfully I do not take it, as I am still classed as a high risk for cancer.

Zantac is the brand name of a drug called Ranitidine.

I've got some ranitidine in my med cupboard now , I'm just wondering when the nhs is going to wade into this controversy and make a decision , I wonder just how long the pharmaceutical company or health services first knew about this ? ,

Zantac ingredient is Ranitidine Brian. Same as in cheaper supermarket versions.

Also sold here in UK in supermarkets own brand called 'Indigestion Tablets', much more cheaply than Zantac. They were off the shelves for a very long time, I wondered why but now they're available in Tesco.

Think I'll take more gaviscon from now on, they come in handy one dose sachets so convenient to carry around.

How can we tell if own brand indigestion tablets contain the dangerous ingredient? Is it listed as something recognisable? My mum sometimes uses them 😯

Traces of NDMA ( which used to be a rocket fuel) have been found in zantac ,it doesnt mention ranitidine but these two brand names are generically similar ,or the same active ingredient

Just look for Ranitidine in the ingredients HP.

Many many years ago it was prescription only. I remember when I was 1st prescribed it in early 90's the GP said "take it sparingly, don't lose or waste any, they cost £1 each!" Later it became available over the counter as Zantac.

I helped to cure my acid problems by just eating smaller meals a little more often , when I went for my check up my doc asked why I had stopped the ranitidine I told him what I had discovered he laughed and said ( he was a retired doc doing a little work) b4 all these medicines they have now they used to advise acid sufferers to do what I was doing

Had my first stomach ulcer at 24 caused by extreme grief. Since then I've avoided alcohol, animal fats, butter, vinegar, citrus fruits, tomatoes and all other acid foods. Occasionally I get a near instant acid reflux response to something, recently it was rapeseed oil so that's out too.

Personally, I believe that a crap diet, processed foods, lack of fibre, smoking & excess alcohol are equally cancer causing - I stress that that's my personal opinion. P

I now use "Slippery Elm Bark capsules" very successfully. Just have to make sure that I leave a gap of 2 hours before taking any oral meds, as it can stop the absorbtion of them.

At present they say that there is no acute risk and not to stop it without seeking an alternative from your GP. What is worrying here is that the companies have stopped production. There have been a lot of medications linked to cancer but from memory this is the only one that they have stopped making it. Generally the advice in northern America is to seek an alternative.

Interesting for anyone worried. P

Oh. I take this. I’ll ask about it at my next meds review. (I expect the risk is actually quite low but regulators are pretty stringent if any concerns are raised).
