I’ve taken it for about 4 years. It definitely helped me. It thins the mucus, so that you don’t have to cough as much. I take it after food. I personally have had no side effects

Hi. I've taken it since 2013 with no ill effect - and I've a very weak stomach indeed. Fof insrsnce i had a bucks fizz at brunch today and had to rush off to take antacid to counteract the orange juice. No effect on my sleep only the good benefits of thinning any mucus plugs in my lungs. Many many people on this forum take it. Hope this helps. P

Not had any but perhaps you're sleeping better because you're breathing better.

I've taken it for about 3 years with no side effects whatever. We're all different, so it may be the cause of your problems.

No side affects, there is a indication of side effects on the information leaflet that comes with the medicine, you can check there, although they are listed it doesn't mean everyone gets them, in fact mostly people dont get side affects with carbocisteine. Discuss with your doctor the symptoms you are experiencing.

I have been taken in for about 3 years, I don’t believe there are any side effects. But no two people are the same. But it well worth taking it for the relief in gives you. 👍

Make sure you have food before you take the medication so that it does not upset your stomach. It should not affect your sleeping. Steve did not suffer any other side effects.

Hi

I have been taking Carbocisteine 3x day for 2 years and luckily they have never caused me a problem - and when I was told try to stop taking - it caused me so much problem with thickening of fluid/sputum in my lungs I soon put myself back on them within 5 days - now would never stop - I do also take omprazole daily - stomach soothing medicine - not sure if related

I do though have friend who does experience stomach problems with carbocisteine when she took them just by themselves with just a glass of water and just could not take them it made so I’ll - although after she talked to me about them , she has now restarted and is taking them with her food at breakfast, lunch, dinner and is finding no stomach problems, as well her lung fluid much improved - phew...

Hope this helps - and best wishes for you health & lungs in 2021

The stomach also has a mucus lining and in some people (me and it,s been awful) carbocisteine can give you an upset tummy and bad tummy aches but if it,s working you can get anti sickness tablets from your Doctor, so for most people no ill effect but a small few can suffer tummy problems.

Thanks for asking this and to everyone who's replied. I've just started on this medication and was a little concerned about the side affects. The consultant mentioned potential gastrointestinal side effects and recommended my gp prescript nacsys if possible (supposed to be easier on the stomach). I assume he wasn't able to and has prescribed carbocysteine 750mg 3 times daily. I plan on following the advice mentioned on here about taking it with food and drinking plenty of water, fingers crossed I have no issues with it 🙂

It's good to hear you're starting to feeling better, it sounds like it didn't agree with you. I'm really hoping I get on ok with it.

I'm the oddball. Yes it caused projectile vomiting. However, I seem to react to a lot of drugs.

All drugs can cause problems for some people. If a doctor prescribes the medication I give it a go.

If you do react just let your doctor know.

Oh no, that doesn't sound good. I think you're right with the give it a go theory, the only way to know is to try it.

I hope it doesn't cause projectile vomiting though, my daughter has a phobia of sick so it wouldn't be ideal!
