[Pek1]

Hi everyone, I'm newish to this site. I gave up smoking 20 years ago and thought I was ok until I was diagnosed with a bit emphysema last year, I've needed antibiotics a few times for my chest and I've had pneumonia aswell and I often get out of breath! how often does any one need to take antibiotics for this disease. I would really appreciate some help. X

Sadly there is no answer to your question concerning antibiotics. Live as healthy a lifestyle as you can. Start some gentle exercise and avoid irritants to your lung. Have you had your pneumonia a new flu jabs.?

Thanks for replying, I was given the flu jab last year but not the pneumonia one. I'm sure I'll get a call to pop up for one soon xx

Hard to say really. Depends on how many infections you get which is usually the only time you need them unless your consultant puts you on long term antibiotics. Good luck and keep well xx

You take antibiotics for infections Pek1 - they dont help for breathlessness if that's what you were meaning. Ask your GP about a medication review if you feel your breathlessness isnt being sufficiently controlled.
