I am new to this site and would like your feedback, i was sent for chest xray as they thought i had infection, was prescribed strong antibiotics and have to go back for another xray in 7 weeks, meanwhile, i now have a pain in left shoulder and still feel slightly breathless, also blood test needs repeating for low iron, what are your thoughts, do you think infection still there ?

Hi! Iron deficiency can cause breathlessness, not that I’m saying that is what is wrong, but it could possible be the cause.

A bad chest infection can cause these things. Because you have new additional symptoms you need to go back to gp. May need more antibiotics and possibly steroids. If breathing gets any worse though you should contact 111. Especially because is now weekend so won’t be able to contact regular gp for a couple of days.

Thank you, i will keep an eye on my breathing, thinking that the infection is still there although my cough is not as bad

Hi and welcome!Something about what you are saying leaves me to wonder if , because things seem a wee bit better that you are considering stopping the antibiotics. Please don’t!

I don’t know if you’ve been prescribed a week’s worth or longer, but unless your doctor changes your script keep on keeping on.

Don’t mean to belabour the point and wish you health and healing. Take care!

Just noticed you have posted twice within very short time span. In future you are best to keep to one posting. It can get confusing with people trying to answer you. If you want to change anything on post you can always edit by clicking on more button on end of post.

sorry for the double posting

Not a problem just with you being new….

You can also lock your posts to this community only as well. If you don't then all your post and replies go viral and can even end up on social media.

how do i do that

Bring your post up. Then look for a button saying 'more'. It might say something else but there is always an option to edit or delete somewhere.

Once you have found it click on it. Then go back and edit your post before reposting it. The option to lock is just before you post and the default button is set to everyone. To lock it you have to change it to community only. Once it is locked a little padlock appears next to it.

That's good advice Bevvy but this only applies I think if you are using a PC. The edit button could be in a different place on different devices, but it will be there somewhere. x

Oh didn’t know the more button moves around. I use an iPad and is where I indicated there.

I have the more button on my pc too but it doesn't always say more but there is always an option there.

The question you pose is for your doctors alone to answer, public can only speculate and not the best idea. Suggest you best consult your GP again.

Just to reassure you. Every response both on this post and jakesnanny09 previous post we have suggested she goes back to gp. This is an exceptionally good group at being sensible. Far more than some of the other groups I have been in.

I hear what you say, most of us have a sensible head on our shoulders and yes a lot of what i read on here is helpful to me in my own situation. But I see it time and again, when individuals come on here wanting advice/reassurance, some others on sites, give their views as to what is wrong which they are not medical professionals to do so, whereas all along, its as bad really as looking things up on Google, thats all I was saying. As I say good for a lot of subjects on here, but not for addressing someone elses health issues in this manner.👍

I think it’s just that I am confident about this site. I joined Facebook a year ago and am on a number of health issue sites. I am absolutely shocked by 1 the number of people asking what they should do in a medical emergency and 2 the number of people giving medical advice/opinion when not qualified to do so!! Is really astonishing what goes on there 😱

Are you improving? Hopefully! If not maybe a 7 day course wasn't enough or there could be inflammation with coughing etc. Good advice to get back in touch via 111.Good luck!

Hi jakesnanny. I’ve had pneumonia 3 times in the past year. First was detected on a chest X-ray. Few months later went down hill again. Sent to hospital for another X-ray which came back clear wasn’t until I got so I’ll I was hospitalised. I then got a CT scan which showed pneumonia sitting at bottom of both my lungs. Would get back to your doctor and push for a CT scan as it was explained to me after that an X-ray can miss a lot as much as it shows things up. Don’t let this message worry you just passing on my experience of chest infection. Hope you get to the bottom of problem and get better soon. Tj

Hi Jakesnanny, if you have low iron count that can make you breathless. Hope you are now taking iron tablets. Usually if you still have an infection then the colour of your sputum will change to various shades of green. Hope you feel better soon.
