Referring to earlier posts, my daughter tells me that 50 years ago the World population was only half of what it is now. Food for thought about the future!?

50 years ago my daughter was a baby and I used to leave her in her pram parked in the street, totally alone whilst I went into the grocers. That was normal way back then in London where we lived and across the country. Unbelievable really!! Another thing I remember was during the day there were very few males about as they were at work. How different it is today 😀 Equally unbelievable is the sheer volume of traffic and people on our roads and streets in comparison to 50 years ago. I live in a small Scottish town now and find it bad enough lol with cars and people but omg Edinburgh Stirling Dundee etc etc .... worst nightmare now !
Like you, I used to park the pram outside the shop and my daughter would interact with all the other babies who were parked there! Passers by would stop and smile at them and chat with them - never a thought that they might not be safe! Shops were not 'child friendly' as no room for the big pram and impossible to hold the baby and the shopping. I can't imagine leaving a child outside in the current day and age. Would they be safe? I doubt it! Everywhere is so busy now and there is a lack of care from the community. Who knows what it will be like in the future. xx Moy
Happy memories Moy. We would be horrified if we saw a child left in a pram unattended outside a shop nowadays. Last time I left a pushchair outside a shop....Marks in Oxford Street ....it was stolen. Fortunately my toddler son was with me in the store. That was about 44 years ago!
Nowadays there is no room on the pavement to park proms lol. Too many people .......😩😩😩😩
Ye, what a difference now. I am 78 in a couple months and I used to live in Birkenhead, Merseyside.
All the men were working and the only time you would see them was when the ships horns would go and they all started to march from the docks up the main road 4-5pm Different one's would peel off to different pubs they past. After an hour or so you would hear the singing and around 6.30- 7pm they would come out and some would go down the local Jigger and knock shit out of each other then Shake hands. Others would start tossing coins and play nearest the wall.
The only things busy were the busses. And bikes.very few could afford a car. The Charabangs at the week ends were very busy and full busses. They were great. We would go on one once a month. Some one would come around at the week ends collecting the fare. Most would be half a crown. I could go on. Great days. These days parents need a lot of spare money to by the kids gadgets.
Cell phones £2-1,000 a piece. Nyke trainers £100+.
Hello skinnylizzy! How are you? Ive been wondering from time to time.
Yes it's certainly a worry, I worry about my grandchildren. I heard recently - perhaps on Countryfile? - that the soil of the world will be totally depleted within 100 years when nothing will grow. The stuff of science fiction.
Saving the planet is becoming desperate for right now. I find it staggering to see all the impossible to recycle goods on sale in supermarkets. Luckily Ive a proper greengrocer nearby.
Love to you and hope you're doing alright, Jen is well as am I (apart from hellish spider bites). P xxxx
Just too many people worldwide, scary x
Thank you everyone who got in touch, brought back lots of memories about leaving babies in parks - ha ha! Love Lizzy xx
