Just found this site yesterday. So informative and great to share problems.
Since a throaty and cough infection in March this year I've been plagued with recurring chest infections. So fed up with it. Previous active lifestyle has gone. Doxycycline did nothing. X-rays and scan revealed nothing - which is great but I still have almost constant chest problems.
Now on Clarithromycin, 3 tabs taken so far. Felt weird and tired yesterday and had to rest. After the evening dose, feeling dizzy and unsteady. Foul taste as well known apparently, but I can cope with that.
I really want to keep on with these. If they solve this chest issue, it will be worth it. I was really active before.
What is your experience with this drug ? Will the dizziness lessen after first few days ?
Good luck to everyone with these problems.

That particular antibiotic I usually ask for when doxycycline and other AB's have failed to clear an infection or a " colonisation ", i use it like a nuclear bomb ,when all else fails boom ,your right about the taste though and with me it just seems to totally invade every part of my body , but it does do the job ,
I’ve taken loads of clarythromyicin over the last 15 yrs. unfortunately it has these unpleasant side effects, but it is an excellent respiratory tract infection antibiotic so if you can persevere it will be great. The effects don’t usually lessen for me but once you finish the course they all go. I also usually get a bit depressed when taking them but now know it is from the claryth.
I hope it clears your infection and should kick in between 24 and 48 hrs.
Thanks for your reply. Nearly 48 hours and still slight chest symptoms.
Fingers crossed.
I had a sever allergic reaction to clarithomycin after a few years of having to take them for chest infections. They are a strong drug so take it easy and monitor yourself. Might be worth keeping a diary. I have also seen that some people have the achilies heel tendon situation with clarithomycin. A bit of googling might help.
