Endoscopy

Has anyone with severe emphysema and abnormal air trapping have a Endoscopy done. I am on oxygen as needed, as the doctor said that because of air trapping the oxygen would not help. I get very sob with exercise. It didn't seem to matter to pulmonary doctor. I am scheduled for this procedure and a little worried about it. Not sure if the gastro knows this.

Hi deedee. I had an endoscopy 6 years ago but didn’t know then that I had emphysema. Now I do know and have to have another one soon so I’m interested to hear if they make any special provision. Hopefully someone will come along soon who knows. Good luck!

Hi, had an endoscopy 3 weeks ago, lot of blood passing out my bum. Felt like diarea. Had 2' one up my bum the other down my throat I was under for 2+hours, never felt a thing. They sprayed my throat. I had 5 Polips in my bowel tube all none cancerous. I was put asleep. They found 5 Polips one large one that was the bleeder. They cleaned them all and sealed the big one. Nothing found down the throat. Woke up great and walked out next day. Had it done in Thailand where I now live for the ladt 11 yrs. cost me 100,000 baht. £2,600. No show of any blood after. They put it down to the blood thinners I am on. I also have COPD AND EMPHASEMA. AND I did have a pain in the ass but not any more.

Hi Hacienda

Thanks for that.. I thought you were a Scouse girl. As we say. "You can always tell a Scouse girl, but you can't tell Em F^*^*n much.

I moved out to New Zealand 30 years ago, my wife was born in Liverpool I am a half cast Scouser, born in Birkenhead.

This is true this. I had my bypass in New Zealand in private hospital, insurance paid.

The anysethis was a Scot in the opp room in the morning getting me ready. Let's call him Jock. I had been telling him jokes and he loved them. Told him the doctors one.

Doc in his surgery and phone went, "Doctor, it's Mrs Smith from Cock St. I'm not very happy since you gave me those tablets." She said.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that Mrs Smith, what is wrong?" He asked.

"I'v got hairs all over my chest."

"Can you come in and I will check you out." He said.

She came in and doc said go behing the curtain and open your blouse please and sit on the bed."

He went behind and looked down her blouse. "OMG Mrs Smith."

She had a chest on her Chyan Boady

He said, "How far down do the hairs go Mrs Smith?"

"Down to my BALLS and that's something else I want to talk to you about." She said.

Oh in the theatre I was getting a little nervous And said to him, OK, put me under I'm ready."

My surgeon was David Haydock. I said. "Where is David?"

He said he is getting ready.

I said, give him a message for me, Tell him I'm gonna haunt him if I don't wake up."

He pissed himself laughing.

After I was in the ICU, I opened my eyes and David was looking at me with a big smile on his face and said.

"Got your message Ken"

Keep in touch, I'm an author had my first book published EBook.

It is on special for free. My 2nd bookin the series is close to finnishing.

I had both an endoscopy and colonoscopy two weeks ago. I am moderate COPD and not on oxygen but do have air trapping. They put oxygen on me as I was being sedated and sprayed the back of my throat. I don’t remember anything of the procedure but was awake about an hour later and released to go home a half hour after that. Didn’t have any problems so don’t think you have to worry. They take your medical history and prepare accordingly.

Thank you for the reply. May I ask you about air trapping? Sometimes my oxygen level seems good, but yet I get short of breath. DR. Says oxygen will not help. Is that because you have a problem getting air out and taking in oxygen would do more harm then good.

My understanding is that the air trapping causes your lungs to expand which puts pressure on the diaphragm and it flattens it out to a degree so it no longer works as it was meant to work. In addition as you have “stale” air trapped in your lungs there is less room for fresh air that contains the needed oxygen so a person becomes short of breath much quicker.
