You may remember me from a few months ago: I have bronchiectasis: I have been unwell for almost 5 weeks - the GP here in Spain keeps treating me for bronchitis I am not getting any better. They keep prescribing bog standard antibiotics and inhalers. Any ideas how I can get them to understand what Bronchiectasis is? Thank you

Find another Dr, it’s to dangerous to not be treated properly. Why don’t you print it out and show it to the Dr?
You need a letter from own doctor here in UK translated into Spanish or show them section on the Chest Heart and Stroke website on Bronchiectasis. Ask for sputum test?
Or, get someone to write down symptoms and diagnosis in Spanish. Good luck.
My sympathies. i retired to Thailand and face similar issues. I learned to live by self-management, finding a pulmo who at least can interpret lungs with a stethoscope and an X-Ray and who knows his lung infections well and then having a once a year review by Papworth Hospital.
Are there any expat websites in Spain that foreigners post on - you might find another like-minded who has solved some of the issues for you already. If you have the inclination to self-manage and can buy antibiotics over the counter (in Thailand I can) then your bible is going to be:
"British Thoracic Society: Guidelines for Bronchiectasis in Adults", but it's quite a tough read being as how it was designed to be read by medical practitioners
Mollie, perhaps you could download this and show it to your Spanish GP or hospital,i am sure they could at least consult with those who do know how to treat it.
