The Rescue Pack.

I am a faithful rescue pack

I sit here at the ready

For when my COPD boss

Starts to feel unsteady

I know that I'm not greatly liked

But they're still glad I'm here

They know full well that when I'm gulped

I can dispel their fear

And when that fateful day arrives

I know I'll be replaced

That's the sacrifice that I make

To help the human race.

Your imagination knows no bounds. What else will finds its voice in your ditties?

Slippers? Teabag? Spider?

Amazing.

Spider?? 🕸🕷

Please don’t write a poem about a spider

Or I’d have to run and hide ... er

There’s a reason why The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter have giant spiders as the feared enemy. No one likes them! I can put up with snakes and scorpions and hornets but I can’t bear the thought of spiders. Shudder...

in reply toHungryHufflepuff

😅 You want me to set-up a Room 101 to avoid upsetting anyone? 🙄

HungryHufflepuff profile image
HungryHufflepuff in reply to

Well yes, if you're going to talk about the s-word. You know I actually dreamed about spiders last night, because of this post I'm sure 🙄 The dream then evolved into a philosophical conversation about my arachnophobia and the things my dad did when I was a child to help me overcome my fear (which didn't help at all)

in reply toHungryHufflepuff

This explains why we have not seen you on ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’. I’m sure a lot on here must have been puzzled by that as I was.🤔

Me too HH - I do like snakes, used to keep mice and rats and always wanted to try holding one of those extremely large bird eating spiders in order to overcome my phobia however have not yet climbed that hill . . . .

HungryHufflepuff profile image
HungryHufflepuff in reply tomajji

You’re braver than me! Just the thought of holding such a beast makes me feel ill. If I thought it would help me overcome my phobia I would do it but I think it would have the opposite effect and I’d be traumatised for life!

majji profile image
majji in reply toHungryHufflepuff

HH I think the speed of those eight legs is what I dislike the most and that at the age of 7 one decided to crawl across my bare chest as I lay in the grass by a riverbank. My reasoning is though that the bird eaters are hopefully quite slow so speed would fade into the background somewhat - have I persuaded you? ;-)

HungryHufflepuff profile image
HungryHufflepuff in reply tomajji

No! I feel faint at the thought. The speed and scuttling doesn’t help but even when they move slowly, or even don’t move at all, it’s just, well I don’t know what it is but it’s unbearable. At one time I considered moving house because there was a big spider, and it just seemed simpler to move house.

Whilst in Bolivia my South American family invited me to go looking for tarantulas under rocks in a dried up river bed,a sort of fun day out for some very strange folk. So as not to let down Cecilia and appear to be a gringo wimp given that i am afraid of even English house spiders i bit the bullet and sallied forth with the gang only to be poleaxed by a wasp the size of a helicopter gunship which took a liking to my arm, sadly i never did get as far as the river bank..what a shame that was. :) x

We just used to visit every 2 years, both working full time it was difficult to arrange 3 weeks holiday together which is the minimum worthwhile given the cost of getting there and the approx 30 hrs each way travel time.x

majji profile image
majji in reply toskischool

A wonderful experience though I imagine?

skischool profile image
skischool in reply tomajji

The wonder used to wear off a bit after a week or so,couldn't quite gel with the sister in law who wanted to control our lives so we buggered off to Lake titicaca or a jungle break near Brazil a couple of times. :) x

majji profile image
majji in reply toHungryHufflepuff

I do understand HH - When I first moved into this house I was quite shaken as spiders were everywhere - open a cupboard and a large one would be sitting there staring at me - it took me a while to get rid of them all but I did, eventually!

HungryHufflepuff profile image
HungryHufflepuff in reply tomajji

Oh my goodness that’s horrible! Did you get in an exterminator or Ghostbusters or something? I can’t believe I’m having a conversation about spiders!

majji profile image
majji in reply toHungryHufflepuff

Yes it was unpleasant in the extreme HH however where there is a will there's a way - I am sorry to admit that I massacred a great many - absolutely pointless in just putting them out of the house as they always returned to the same place they had just been evicted from - I found insect mesh applied over all opening windows worked rather well in preventing their re-entry.

Morning Mr D, you made me laugh as usual but especially with the word "spiffing" ! Don't quite know why....I mean it is a very odd word, hardly used nowadays. Looks like today is going to be a scorcher so I will be sitting in the shade or indoors with my fan on full blast. Spiffing 😆!

Enjoy.your weekend.

in reply toSquirrelsHolt

Lovely word isn't it, 'spiffing'? Haven't used it for ages, you can see the dust flying around. Goes well with 'absolutely'. Have you noticed how that has become popular with .politicians. Ab...sol....lute... ly, gives them time to think before saying anything, if in fact they can think of anything else to say. 🙄

I've never bee not offered a rescue pack from doc nurse or who ever.

Maybe I will ask but prob told no.

Sounds like a handy friend to have.

Another great one Don 👍 X

in reply toKittykat2

There might be a good reason why you haven't been given one. There are drawbacks since you will be taking on a job which should really be done by the doctor. Deciding whether or not to use them is not easy and some people refuse them on those grounds.

Kittykat2 profile image
Kittykat2 in reply to

Very true Don.

Not sure I would be great at deciding if and when.

I've only had a couple bad hospital does to be honest.

If I get an infection which touch wood not been often the emergency doc comes out that day if I ring and does a prescription etc and a check up. X
