Rescue pack
Antibiotics and steroids that you can take if you have infection starting ..
Beats calling an ambulance at the cost of £350 but obviously call one if your very unwell xxxx
As Angie says it is usually antibiotics and steroids prescribed by the GP to be kept at home and taken as soon as an infection begins. The quicker it is hit the better and this saves waiting for an appointment to get a prescription or worse still waiting over a weekend or bank holiday for the surgery to reopen.
Usually with your rescue pack the GP or chest nurse will give you a sheet with instructions written on it. Ask your doctor for details.
6Bethany,
Hi,
A rescue pack is a pack of antibiotics + at least a pack of Prednisolone (a steroid) to be taken when you have symptoms of a chest infection. Your doctor should give you a prescription to obtain said pack. Get it dispensed and keep it handy. Do not take it unless in need.

I notice several of these replies mention a steroid as part of the rescue pack. I've just been taken off my steroid inhaler because Consultant says it is not helping my colonised pseudomonas, so it sounds as if it all depends on what your condition is. Bronchiectasis is often different from some of the other lung conditions. My rescue pack is just a different antibiotic from the one I take as a prophylactic all year round. I will obviously take this on hols too just in case.
