I am a sound and light technician, I have worked for years in a culture center. The last 4 years I am at home because my lungs are affected by a Hazer from the brand antari. (oil-based hazer)
The result of this is that I only have 40 percent lung capacity.
All my doctors and professors have confirmed this, including the toxicologist prof.Nemery.
Only the Belgian state does not want to accept this. The result of all this is that I received a medical resignation and am now unemployed. I hope that many technicians no longer use these devices so that much suffering can be prevented.

Hello KDJ4, I think that you should investigate the status of the use of this particular haze further. In common with many on this site I am badly affected as an audience member by the use of haze. It is very difficult to get theatres to acknowledge this. However, I was in 'heavy' discussions with the RSC where I attend regularly because in one production they used so much haze at audience head height during the whole production that I turned blue and managers had to look after me. They insist that they have not used oil based haze for some years, but rather water based. In England there are guidelines for the use of water based haze but no legislation. I am not sure if oil based is now banned. Since my discussions I have noticed that although the RSC continue to use the haze, they tend to comply now with the guidelines which they were not doing before I took up the cudgels. In the US actors have been involved for some time in a class action against theatres. Good luck with it. Keep pegging away because you have suffered an industrial injury. As you are in Belgium I would start with investigating the EU regulations and any similar cases which exist.
Hey, The theater where I worked now also has a water-based smoke machine after my insident. After my last visit to my colleagues, they happily say that they do not use this machine because the haze is not so beautiful ????? You can clearly see if it is oil or water based, with oil the haze is almost not visible with water based there are clouds. The water-based haze contains fats that are not really healthy either, for me the explanation from the Belgian state was that there was no literature about it, so it is not accepted either. In other words, they do not have to pay for disability.
Interesting. My complaints about the water based haze were met with the same response - not enough evidence or studies done. There is something really not right here that these products have slipped through the health and safety net.
