You can try PIP from the job centre

I tried for pip last year only gave me 4pts for not walking far so failed I should of appealed I travel 44 miles each way to work stand for 9hrs to operate a machine seems I got penalised for able to work these people have no idea to what we are going through

I’m 57 close to 58, in the USA. I’m beginning to have to use my rescue too much during work. My job doesn’t require heavy work but lately more walking then I’m able to handle. I’m mostly worried about medical benefits. Over here once you get on disability you have a two year waiting period until you can get medical. Seems ridiculous to me. If I’m disabled clearly I need medical and meds. So I feel forced to work until I drop.

I think it is pretty clear the people that make the rules have never had to live by them.

Well if you are in the UK call BLF on this number 03000 030 555, and ask to speak to the benefits adviser. They work office hours. x

Hi. Get in touch with Age UK. They were brilliant when I was in a similar situation to you. They were very supportive and understanding and helped me to apply successfully for benefits to which I was entitled.

Hi I live in new Zealand, we are possibly a little more helpful to illnesses, but, not much!

I am the same age as you, I learned very quickly how you get what you need(not want) , & even then not quickly, it still took me all last year, & a few months this year to get what I needed, but, now! If I was to die tomorrow, I would be comfortable!

You can only persevere my friend, good luck, I went through hell! Last year, because of my age, I was way too young to retire, as it is......the reality is! I may not make it to retirement age! BUT I WILL FIGHT!!!!

Best thing is to try and see a benefits advicer locally, or ring BLF advice line as suggested. Some benefits are payable even if working . Local councils sometimes have advice sessions or benefits officers to calculate individual needs. The main benefits are ESA and PIP but these can passport you to other things like rebates or free prescriptions. It is a minefeild dependent on individual circumstances, age, marital status , ect ect the list is endless and you will need help I am sure, seek it sooner rather than later.

Ring your local welfare rights officer. They will tell you exactly what to do next. You should be able to start claiming benefit. Good luck

That advice is wrong. If you are working you would need to go through your companies ill health retiral process. You might qualify for PIP depending on your the severity of what condition you are suffering. Contact your local Citizen Advice Bureau and or the BLF benefits advisor to discuss your situation and to see what benefits you may qualify for. DON'T just quit work as that's the worst thing you can do as this could stop any benefit you would be entitled to claim.
