So afraid. Pseudomas aureginosa

I was just diagnosed with pseudomonas aureginosa from a stool culture. I'm on Cipro. I'm absolutely terrified. The internet has nothing but horrible stories and outcomes. I have anxiety disorder and ocd so I'm really having a hard time. I'm so hoping someone else can relate and offer some advice.

Please don't panic . I've had the wretched bug for six years now but it's gradually got well controlled and only pops it's head up now and then, usually when I get a cold or something. And I know others in the same position. Take the drugs when necessary and look after yourself e.g. some exercise seems to help. Good luck!

Hello Pookiepoo . I am sorry you have this diagnosis. Unfortunately, I don't know what those are, but I just wanted to say, please don't Google it. I did too when I first got sick and people here advised me not to. Everyone's experiences are different. And your prognosis won't be the same as you have read on Google. As bwp91 has said, please don't panic. It will be okay. Take care.

No need to be frightened, the Cipro will help you manage it, together with breathing exercises to loosen the mucus and drinks of water to thin it down. A healthy diet and exercise will also help (says she who eats too much of the bad things get, and does not exercise enough). I have had Pseudamonus for 4 years now, and we (me and the medical profession) have no problem controlling it.

I have had pseudomonas since 1986. Still alive, kicking and giving everybody what for.

Greetings!

Please stop consulting Dr. Google. Three clicks and you go from having a mild headache to being dead! Pseudomonas is a nasty bug but can be controlled and bumped off: I had it a couple of years ago and live to tell the tale.

COPD and anxiety/depression go hand in hand. Talk to your GP. Dealing with lung disease is hard enough without having to deal with depression as well. Meds help with that too.

Don't struggle alone. We, at the very least, are here.

first of all stop panicking.!!! from what I understand we never get rid of pseudomonas it lies dormant till we get a cold etc.then flares up,ciproflaxicin and steroids usually shift it and bring us back to "normal".I get this infection at least once a month and it knocks me off my feet for a few days, please don't worry about the stories, some people revel in being ill.stay strong and keep taking the pills, they do help.xxx

Poor you, sympathies. Everything seems so much worse when you're anxious.

If I were you I'd be ordering some good prebiotics and probiotics, I know they'd help me enormously.

Good luck. Peege

Thank you all so much! Mine showed up in a stool culture due to 9 days of diarrhea. I have mild copd, so of course I'm concerned about pneumonia and sepsis. You all are so kind with your replies. It's hard to find other's with this to chat with.

Hi. Do you mean it's shown up in your stool but not your lungs? If so, it's not such a worry. In the lungs, it forms a biofilm which is hard for antibiotics to penetrate, so it's almost impossible to completely eradicate. Even so, it can still be suppressed quite effectively. I've had it maybe 10yrs now. If it's in your gut only though, it's much easier to get rid of.

I had nine days of diarrhea so they did a stool culture. They found it growing in the culture. My fear is that it will infect my lungs since they aren't good. The internet offers very little info on it being found in a stool culture. What you do find is terrifying.
