nasal cannula's causing severe nose bleeds
I have a Cannula with my Home Converta, and My Inogen 1 Mobile. I do have Nose Bleeds most days, not to any excess, have mentioned it to my Consultant, she said it is the cannula. So I have reduced the flow when not active as instructed by the Oxygen Nurse. It has lessened the Nose Bleeds. Hope yours Improves. Good Luck. xxx
thanks love for the reply i am the concentrator pulsing at 2 litres and 4 on the bottle just to walk about trying to use the mask lol!! resp nurse has said t use KY jelly as it is water based hey ho !! xx
Blimey! It”s no wonder your having nose bleeds, with that amount of pressure on those tiny blood vessels in the nose! I would suggest that unless you are extremely poorly, you try to reduce the pressure. Your body can only sustain this for a certain amount of time, before something gives..good luck, and best wishes 👍👍
thanks so much for the reply , i have 2 litres ambulatory 02 using the Inogen1 g4 and now just use the cannula in between by lips lol!! try anything and also the mouth peice to as i am uneasy now using the cannula because of hospital treatment again xx the rep nurse say to use the mask ? so am gonna try again xx
My husband also got nosebleeds which we assumed were caused by the cannula, not particularly bad ones, but more of an inconvenience really. His respiratory nurse suggested having a humidifier bottle fitted to his oxygen concentrator. It just has to be topped up with pure water each day and has made a big difference. He rarely gets nosebleeds now and says it also helps a lot with the dryness he gets in his mouth. He is now on 5 - 7 litres of oxygen and has to use hi-flow cannula so it may not be appropriate for you but, it’s certainly worth looking into. Obviously a humidifier can’t be used with cylinders, but he can’t use those much these days as sadly rarely leaves the house. He also takes Mucodyne which I believe is to reduce stuffiness and helps with his breathing. Hope this may be of help to you.
As l do not use one at moment, the only thing l could think of
was, to use vick vapour rub as a temporary stop gap.It is waterproof
warm and would stop air getting to blood vessels ????
I find that using KY Jelly on the prongs of the cannula can help a lot
got some gonna try thanks you so much for the reply x
