The practice nurse has asked if I would like to change to a different inhaler thats only needed once a day . I have agreed to try Ellipta from next prescription repeat, but have read on line that this drug is not ideal in COPD patients if they need a higher dose, has numerous side effects not good for COPD patients including inflammation of the lungs,pnuemonia and flu but to name a minor few. It also weakens bones which seems daft in my case as I am already taking vitamin d to prevent fractures due to falls, joint pain but I already have two types of arthritis causing joint pain. This drug seems inappropiate . What would the members suggest ? or as anyone else had problems with this drug mixture inhaler.? I normally take Seretide 500 twice a day with spirava and I have not looked up any possible interactions the side effects are contra indecative. Would appreciate feed back on this. Many thanks

Morning katieoxo60 ! This is a difficult one for me to give you any advice on as I currently use Genuair inhaler,a non steroid based puffer,one puff,twice a day. I've never had Ellipta so really can't offer any advice.....in other words,let's hope some of our members can give you some answers etc.

I have also been asked to try Ellipta but like you kateoxo not sure what to done I have copd the consultant at the hospital put me onto it,but not plucked up courage to try it it's been sat there a week.
I am interested as to why you have not tried it and left it lying for a week? Is it just fear of change or have you heard things before my post that have given you doubt.
Hi Katie I've just come out of hospital having had Pneumonia and they have changed me to Ellipita. I must say I'm very concerned having read what you say on the side effects. I also have Osteoporosis and take vit d and calcium.... been on it a week now no noticeable side effects as yet but I am seriously considering going back on my Duo Resp until I can get to talk to my COPD nurse.

I would question this with nurse, but remember not everyone gets side effects. I know nothing about the drug only its use for asthma which I read in the Asthma journal as I am an Asthma UK member.Seretide can cause pnuemonia as a side effect but I've never experienced any problems with it, but my info on line does state these side effects for Ellipta in fact I have printed it off. Good luck with the nurse.
I did read that Ellipta is for people with copd. Consultant recommended it.im just scared of change. Been on spirivia for some time I've nearly finished it. So will start it then.suppose like all drugs they all have side effects and they dont affect everyone so as soon as I've finished spirivia got about 3 days left going Ellipta will let you know how it goes.

Hello Stone , I understood that the once a day one was for Asthma not COPD. But maybe she is suggesting one of the others you mentioned, I noticed there is more than one type of this inhaler. The renewed prescription wont be prescribed till after Easter, thanks for your link will have a look now.
Hi Stone , a further reply the nurse has added Relvar to my prescription to replace Seretide 500 which is prescribed for COPD. Just so you know I am certain this is what it was prescribed for. Will have to challenge it at the chemist and see what they think. Seretide is used to treat asthma but not in my case. The new drug for COPD is a triple one taken once a day but does have similar side effects to what I described earlier in my post. Anyway thanks for your reply will have to deal with it after Easter. Thanks once again. Remembering not everyone gets side effects.

Relvar comes in two strengths, 92/22 for COPD and Asthma
184/22 for Asthma not recommended for COPD.

Stone she has prescribed or added to my repeat list 184/22 relvar ellipta, as some one sarcastically said whats she trying to do kill you off altogether. Thanks for further link think thats the one I did this morning. What worries me is she could do this to another patient whose not so up on these things or has no computer to check. This is all to save Dr time but risky to the less savvy patient. Bye for now.
Just started it on Sunday give it a go for month instead of seretide and ellipta cruse to one a day puff of trelegy I take that is what you’re going on to
Hi Jimmy23 , I have not started it yet only agreed a try I think a doctor would think it contra indicative in my case however we shall see what the chemist thinks about this as our chemist has to keep a reveiw on new prescriptions to chronic health patients. I was changed from fostair to Relvar which is elipta and had terrible pains in my right buttock , all down my right side and could hardly walk . The fostair used to give me horrendous leg cramps so am now on Clenil 100 2 puffs twice a day but no problems as yet so fingers crossed

Been on the Relvar90/92, Since Saturday. Use only once a day. Found it has helped me, No side affects,. But i am also waiting for a pacemaker op. So low pulse can make you breathless. But i have also had a breath test. Which came back with Severe Obstruction. But don t feel too bad in myself. This breathless and low pulse came on together after a sore throat and cough
