Hi, I've stopped smoking for over two months and feel awful. Chest is still tight on occasion, still a bit wheezy and coughing sometimes but getting better. I generally feel like I have a cold every other week.....is this normal? Doc says bloods and chest, heart etc are all good

Feel terrible after giving up smoking
Hiya I've been stopped almost 6 months and my chest is tight not as bad though keep going it will be worth it
Congratulations on the two months. Keep it up otherwise all that fight against the addiction will be wasted. I bet you don't miss shelling out almost a tenner for each pack though. Things will get better as time passes though. I am just coming up for 3 years and never thought it possible, after being a very heavy smoker for over 50 years (an ounce of tobacco per day). My first ever ciggy was at 8 years old, I never stood a chance, being encouraged to be "big and grown up" by my peers at school.
Hi well done on your 2 months quit as it isn't easy giving up the evil weed. You can get all kinds of side effects which no medic will tell you about. Have a look at the quit smoking site on here
healthunlocked.com/quitsupport
I stopped for 17 months with the support of the great people on there but unfortunatly have gone back to it. I found that often it's just a case of damage limitation when you stop especially when you already have a lung disease like copd. As someone on there said to me did I really expect after over 40 years of heavy smoking to get off scot free. This changed my attitude and now I a grateful to still be mild.
Having said that I am pleased your health is improving so keep it up. x
Hi briski well done quitting keep in there yes it can take months for your lungs to heal I was rough rough for at least 9 months.Just shows the damage smoking does to our lungs our life line There are non smokers and looes and after 55 years I am a non smoker and so are you take care xxx
Well done.
It was my big regret with my smoking consultant lady that she did not explain (for obvious reasons) just exactly how awful I would feel for the first six months as my body adjusted to the change.
Anyway, it was well worth it - make no mistake. You're now on the home straight and it will get easier day by day.
Good luck.
It took me 6 months to cough up all the gunge from my lungs when I gave up at the age of 30. You're fighting an addiction, so the cold symptoms may be your body's way of trying to con you back into smoking. Just stay resolute. Keep saying no just for today, and eventually it will improve.
