Phewie! Here I lie, hours after Going to bed. Not sleepy, blowing all kinds of muck from my nose (one side bloody, the other ranging from luminous yellow water to lumpy brown mucus.) And I have a foul bitter taste in my mouth. I'm not really complaining, it's day 8 smoke free and it probably serves me right for smoking since 14 yrs. ..I'm 48 now. But it sucks right?

Giving up Smoking...side effects
Doesn't sound nice and hope things improve soon. Well done on quitting. Xxxxxx
Well done on Quitting, the symptoms you have are your lungs clearing, this takes a while to subside. Untill things calm down you will feel a bit rough, drink loads of fluid to make mucus come up easier. Best Wishes
no it doesnt serve you right. most of as started smoking the most addictve drag in the world when we where children.
i stoped smoking 3 years ago, started smoking i think about 10 years old. i am now 67.
i did feel very sick for sometime but stayed with it.
i think you might have other issues then just side effects from stoping smoking.
drink as much water as you can, and a vist to your doctor or even to your loco hospital is what i would do to see if i had an infection.
good you stoped smoking.
It sounds as though you might have a sinus infection, stopping smoking might make you feel a lot of things but , I think there's more than that going on, blood from your nose needs investigating, do go and see your GP or at least your local pharmacist.
Morning sham

Keep at it! The symptoms will go. I smoked for many years and now wake with a clear nose, cough up very little sputum. Keep going this will not last!
Hi did you know there is a quit site on here? They should be able to give you advice about the after effects of giving up smoking.
Regardless of the 'side effects' they're better than the side effects you were creating by continuing to stuff all those ashes, poisonous gases and other nonsense in your lungs. I started puffing about the same age as you and I'm now 74. Of course, none of us started out on the 2 and a half packs I ended up running through daily, but....., better late than never.
When I stopped, I'd tried everything and finally arranged to double up on the patches, I was so desperate. I did that throughout the 3 steps required which amounted to a couple of months at least (I extended the time on some of the patches). I'm not recommending what I did only relaying the facts of how I finally quit for good ten years ago and haven't been tempted since.
I realize we're told that 2 patches at a time is NOT the way to do it but my reasoning was that if all those ashes and smoke hadn't seemed to harm me all this time, what's a little excess nicotine going to do?? The answer...., absolutely nothing. As I said, I've quit and am so glad of the fact.
Whatever gets you through the night..., it's alright, alright....
Regards,
Duncan
Wow! Thankyou all for your pearls of wisdom and encouraging words. I do appreciate it. I will look for the stop smoking section definitely. Also I HAVE been to the doctor and yes, I have a sinus infection and throat infection. However, she did attribute sleeplessness to quitting. I will stick with it what ever happens. I lost my darling Dad in February, Lung Cancer. It was ugly, undignified and traumatic. He didnt deserve it (does anyone? ) So heres to you my Dad...I will beat this. As for every one else, I'm sending you positive thoughts and a big hug. Thankyou again x
Imagine what you will feel like in a month with out all those goodies in your body and believe me they leave xx
That does not sound good...something I am not looking forward to. Today I am on day 2 of quitting smoking (cold turkey) and I noticed that I have shortness of breath and tightness in my lungs. My boyfriend said that I was snoring really bad last night and I had bags under my eyes in the morning. That is how I found this site. I was searching symptoms for quitting smoking. I wish you the best. Stick with it....its a tough journey but we can do this
