Bacterial infections.

For 4years I have been taking antibiotics to combat mycobacterium avium pulmonary disease referred to as airborne TB. I also have the condition bronchiectasis.

In all this time I have not come across anyone with this illness; unknown to the Lung foundation it seems after attending a local breathe easy group.

Does anyone else out there have this disease? Or know of anybody who is taking these TB highly toxic drugs.

Hi, I have bronchiectasis and occasional MAC, I've read of others having it too. I usually get it cleared up with IV antibiotics. Joy. x

Thanks for replying Joy. You're the only one. I don't know of anyone who has this bacterial infection. It's a superbug alright !

Would you mind telling me when you first were diagnosed with Mac and how long did it take to get rid of it. Did you take antibiotics aurally or intravenously.

I'm encouraged to hear that you're on top of it.

I have Mac and pseudomonas along with bronchiectasis. People with bronchiectasis also get many types of other incurable germs. I took the three drug tx for two yrs. My sample showed the Mac was arrested. Only for it to show up again with the next sample. So now I just live with it. I go to an NTM support grp. Look up National Jewish and NTM. It will tell you everything you want to know about it.

Sorry I meant to ask you if you are taking drugs to manage the condition.

Just lately I've wanted to stop all .. I get so disheartened after nearly 4 years of drugs to combat MAC. The side effects are awful..

No, i don't take anything long term other than inhaled Promixin, Colamycin, for pseudomonas plus prednisolone.

I usually have IV antibiotics which is enough to get rid of it. It has reappeared but another course of antibiotics usually does the trick, Joy x
