I have stage 4 copd and am on oxygen but am really struggling to walk any distance at all. Has anyone improved their mobility by a lot of exercising?

Hi
Exercise will tone your muscles so they use less energy and make better use of the available oxygen, which in turn will improve your mobility.
Have you been referred to pulmonary rehabilitation. One hour exercise one hour education twice weekly for six weeks.
Hello,
As stone-UK says, exercise improves your muscles so they make better use of the oxygen available. Exercise at pulmonary rehab is not about getting hot and sweaty, going for the burn. Guided by physiotherapists you do a sensible routine, starting very gently and gradually building on that. None of it is high impact.
I go to a Breathe Easy, British Lung Foundation Support Group. We have a physiotherapist comes to every other meeting. She shows us simple exercises we can do for a few minutes at a time at home.
I will admit that before I went to Pulmonary Rehab that exercise seemed a bit daft as I was struggling to do anything at all. However, it works. It makes every day tasks just a bit easier.
Ask your doctor about pulmonary rehab.
Meanwhile, keep trying to do what you can, with frequent rests to breathe.
Good luck xx
Yes just start slowly and build up your strength stederly. If you can get on a pulmonary rehab course that is a great way to start
I would be an invalid without exercise, unified. As it is I live a good life with very little limitation.
It's never too late to start and you can just walk around your home increasing the number of steps and the time as slowly as you need to. But also good advice about getting referral to PR.
I'm not as severe as you but excercise at any stage works. It's hard but you reap the rewards later, I certainly have done.
