You have had three big shocks to your system recently.......stopped smoking, change of job and your diagnosis of COPD, so it's no wonder you feel down.

But as they say ' the only way is up ' now .....plenty of water or warm drinks, good food and relaxation exercises all helped me.

And this site of course.

The BLF has a lot of information and a helpline.....check out their website for information.

Take care

Emily61. Please go back a week in your life😊

And see how much you have progressed. You have done really well.

Don’t let anyone else upset you.

Something I wish I had learned when I was in my teens.

It would have saved me a lot of trouble. Remember this.

NO ONE CAN HURT OR UPSET YOU UNLESS YOU GIVE THEM PERMISSION.

We all have an “ OFF “ switch. So use it

Don’t use energy with people who don’t support and understand you.

Your boss may just have been having a bad day. So concentrate on yourself. You are doing very well. Hold onto that thought.

Baby steps remember.🙂

Have a good evening.

With good wishes.

P.S. I have replied to your other post about vitamins.

Hi

She was not having off day that's how she is...she virtually ignored me after my hospitalization but do you know what

Everything happens for a reason..think she was annoyed I had pulmonary rehabilitation on day working.

She has done me a favour as now I have time to concentrate on me and what I need to do.

My little book of ideas from you all will do tomorrow along with taking bambi to groomers

P.S. going back to vitamins, Emily61, I forgot,

Cinammon which is good for blood pressure and sugar levels,

Linseed which is good for lowering cholesterol and almonds... again good for lowering blood pressure, and a very small amount of blackstrap molasses which has some unusual stuff in it, like chromium and copper etc.

That said I’m sure I am not the role model for good health Emily61.

But I AM 76, have been a vegetarian since I was 11, and vegan since I was 30.

I am blessed to be very active, have an allotment, lots of hobbies, love the outdoors and love every day that I wake up. Long may it last.

I hope no one else reads this as I NEVER tell anyone my age and will deny it if asked😂😂😂😂 and only tell you to encourage you.

Good wishes.

in reply toWhitechinchilla

Hi first age is just a number my 57 years yet I am a big child with my grand children thank you you have been an inspiration.

Another P S

Plus pine nuts, sesame seeds and Brazil nuts.😄

in reply toWhitechinchilla

Allotment what do you grow and how have you been today

Whitechinchilla profile image
Whitechinchilla in reply to

No I don’t grow there in winter. I don’t like the cold and the damp 😂

I am lucky enough to have a greenhouse at my flat so I grow a few bits but not much. Looking fwd to spring to start my seedlings in the kitchen.

I had a good day today, thankyou. I can feel the difference after just a few minutes exercising at the gym. Wish my flat was big enough to have one at home but I’ll have to make do with my yoga mat and weights. I want to make more effort this time and keep up the exercises at home.

Lovely that you have your grand children close by. They are such a joy aren’t they? Mine are in Cape Town so I hope to be going over at Easter.

Have a good evening and sleep well.

in reply toWhitechinchilla

Aww that would be nice for you...I love my lot to bits... I guess I need to excercise don't but hear I need to..have asked daughter if I could use her treadmill...I have excercise bike...pilartis DVD

Its the breathlessness that scares me as I know I am panicked...this is never ending....sorry bit of a moan

Whitechinchilla profile image
Whitechinchilla in reply to

So you have an allotment too? That’s cool. We will have lots to share them😊 wow you have an exercise bike, that’s great too.

You will learn to mange the breathlessness. You will.,

The biggest obstacle I overcame was learning not to panick about being breathless. P. Rehab will help you with that.

Hope you have a good day😊

Which just goes to show how little you were valued, you are better off without them. Look forward only, not back and that goes for everything. You have a new, different life before you, there is no going back.

in reply to2greys

The job was to fast pace to be honest..so she did me a favour but yes already knew I like the rest there are not valued but...you are right that is history...I have 4 weeks to adjust to my diagnosis before new job...attend consultant appointment where I hope to have a clearer understanding of my disease and how it affects me as an individual

Still scared fearful.of my future...Will I be able to work ....still feel overwhelmed but still trying...had difficulty breathing and was tearful as chest hurt and then thought ..."How can someone like you work"

How are you anyway

2greys profile image
2greys in reply to

Doing fine, better now it's warmed up a little, I can only work because I am fit and exercise a lot. I have to use pursed lip breathing all day long which I am used to now. It is not easy and is really hard to keep going but again I am now used to it.

My biggest problem, I work with my hands, trying to remember to be careful with my hands and arms because of the incessant bruising and sometimes skin tearing, if I cut myself I bleed like a stuck pig because of blood thinners. I have always worked and cannot imagine myself not working and dread the day that I can't do it.

in reply to2greys

Yes I fully get that I want and need to work for a long time to come ...have you tried the airlife volumetric incentive spirometry to help open airway

I really am struggling with the breathlessness

in reply to2greys

Cam I also say reading your profile makes me feel very humble

2greys profile image
2greys in reply to

No, I do not use any such devices. I am lucky, I do not have a problem with lots of excess mucus, I only get a little more than a healthy person and that is usually on waking up, during the day I just have to clear my throat with a little "growl", a real, huge advantage over other members. I also do not have a cough, which can be energy draining. As is often said here, we are all different.

in reply to2greys

Ok just looking for pointers as everything new to me...and we are all different...

Believe me 2greys, I don’t want to embarrass you, but you

are truly inspirational. I learn so much from your posts and I just love your take on life. Keep it up😃

in reply toTicks

Hi

1. Get CV updated.

2. Send out Cv to any company that you are you are interested in even if they are not advertising.

3 Get out and walk if you can even for a few minutes.

4 make sure that your boss used the correct procedure when sacking you.

5 you can contact citizens advice.

6 Give yourself a hug .

When one door closes another one opens and sometimes a much bigger door x

It my husband that has copd emphysema. He has be diagnosed since 2013 . But at last we are getting somewhere with the respiratory team . He been on ambulatory oxygen since 2015 and since last year oxygen for 16 hours over night. We have found that you have to be so proactive with your illnesses. But at last it seems to be coming together. It not restricting him so much now. He has been on the respiratory course 3 times and has a walking machine at home which he uses 3 times a week. We are retired now so not a problem to find time to fit it in. I really do wish you the best. Please keep in touch and let us know how the new job goes. X

in reply toalyvonne

I will definitely....I know you have to push j had no understanding I have gained a lot here ...still scared but now determined to do all I can to slow this down just don't know what type of COPD I have and if it can be slowed down

Guess my consultant appointment 25th Febuary will give me a better insight .

I still feel I have so much to give I hope God allows me to...god bless. And thank you

Don't smoke Emily, it won't make your problems go away. It will make them worse. Forget about IDs and Uniforms, that's their problem, not yours. Look forward to your new job and your new strength

in reply tostamford1234

Not smoke since 1st December you just made me smile....yes it is their problem and no did not have one as it would add to my problems thank you

You gotta larf! It took nearly a year for me to shift all the old gunk off my chest and sinuses when I stopped smoking, Try some NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) it loosens any congestion. I swear by it, others on here do too. The capsules smell awful but are tasteless

in reply tostamford1234

Where can I get that from than you...I love your sense of humour
