Humidifiers for COPD
Not sure about that but I leave a Himalayan Salt Lamp on in the bedroom and can definitely feel the difference in the air when I walk in. Feels cleaner, colder and more breathable. It is quite a large onr so cant leave on at night unfortunately or wouldnt be able to sleep but sleep with the window open even in winter.
I find it necessary ---I use a nasal spray for my allergies and over a year ago I started getting nose bleeds (plus sleeping with my mouth open) . I now use a cool moisture humidifier during the winter months and my nose has healed. I do try to be very careful and clean the small unit thoroughly once a week. --My pulmonologist thinks using it is fine.
I heard years ago, not to use warm humidifiers, that the heating of the water can promote bacteria within the water. Don't know if that's still true.
One has to keep the warm humidifier's clean , if they don't, then I heard that bacteria will build up and that warm humidifier's have to be "tended" to more often. But I would do that gladly, if it creates a warmer room. That is all I heard, that one must keep it clean, and of course I heard it with the cool humidifiers also, but I think the warm humidifiers might have to be clean 2x's a week, as opposed to 1x per week, with the cool humidifiers. I am going to do some research as to the bacteria of the warm humidifiers. Thanks for your input....because I sure don't want bacteria build up in a warm humidifier !
Now off of Prednisone (wasn't a strong dose for 5 days each session (for 2 sessions), and now my breathing is somewhat worse. What can I do to alleviate the SOB, I do inhaler, have oxygen set at 2 (use that) , do a nebulizer 3 times a day....I would have thought the nebulizer would help a lot, but right now, ...nothing seems to "dismiss" this SOB. Throughout the 3 weeks, yes, the shortness of breath is "somewhat " better; but not back to like it was in the middle of January. Was wondering what one does to replace Prednisone (must be something "all-natural " out there for a substitute that people use). I have heard this happening before with people with COPD (they get off the Prednisone , and then their shortness of breath returns. Please does anyone know the answer to this question?
