Saw a post about humidity the other day , but cant find the post now to reply to it ...... so decided to write my own .. ..... i noticed the humidity in our our area has been quite high lately , which coincided with me having a pretty bad few days breathing . Its a bit lower now and im feeling much better . Just bought a de-humidifier from Amazon , do these things help or have i just invested in another useless gadget ?

De-Humidifiers
It may, like many things what helps one person with dodgy lungs does not help another. I live in a very damp part of the country and am amazed at how much my dehumidifier manages to extract every day.
For me, a dehumidifier definitely helps. There’s hardly a day in the year when mine isn’t on. It’s incredibly damp here. It’s harder to heat a damp house, so it can feel cold as well as damp without a dehumidifier. My house had a lot more mildew before the dehumidifier. I’d definitely recommend one 👍
I think the humidity problem has been very widespread in recent weeks and we did have a discussion on it! It has affected breathing for a lot of us. We borrowed my sons De-humidifier and yes it worked a little for me but they do seem to be more used by people suffering with mould or condensation problems and ideal for people drying laundry indoors during the winter. We have none of those problems and in fact our house is very dry and when it takes out moisture in the air it sends hot air back out. So it made my room very dry and a lot hotter. A lot of people do derive benefit from them so it's well worth a try!
Mine certainly helps me, I use mine in my bedroom and keep the door and windows closed and use it as a bolt hole.
I have noticed how high the humidity has been recently too. It doesnt help with my breathing. I have an air purifier on most of the time and open windows but i think a dehumidifier might be good.It could help some of us but we are all different. It’s worth trying anything that could help quality of life.
🙂
I said the other day that I’d struggled on my regular walk and panicked that I was getting worse. Did the same walk yesterday without any trouble. It’s definitely the weather/humidity that’s affecting me. I don’t really understand it though. My house doesn’t feel at all damp but the internal reading was 69 yesterday, I opened the doors and it went down to 59. Does that mean my house is damp?
Perhaps moisture in the air is retained indoors a little longer in between these humidity spells. I'm sorry I don't know. Where in the UK are you? We had a humidity level of 98 again last night so I opened the window and it went down into the low eighties and I can only think it was a lot colder outside with a bit of wind that changed the levels which was why I closed the window in the first place!
Yes, it’s confusing. I live in central Scotland and the air is usually fresh (if not downright chilly) but recently it’s been close and feels airless.
Hi cappy1966 I don’t think you’ve wasted your money. I bought a dehumidifier a couple of years ago and find it’s a godsend when the humidity is high. Hope you get some relief Barbs x
Hello cappy1966 , 😊👋
I do believe an overly humid atmosphere is really detrimental for lung patients. It causes pollutants like dust, pollen and even mites to get trapped in the air and then we breathe it all in. Humidity also activates nerves that restrict and tighten the airways. So, I do think it's beneficial. I would say be careful with the water tank. It needs cleaning or else it is the perfect environment for mold to grow. Have a lovely evening.

I didn’t know that, though coincidentally I was looking at the water tank the other day when I was emptying it, and thought it looks like black mould on it. 😱 I need to clean it tomorrow!
Please do Huff. If you can put a little bleach in it and leave it a couple of hours, then thoroughly rinse it, it will be fine. Humidifiers, dehumidifiers both need cleaning often. As do the filters. 😏
