COPD and vomiting

I have just returned from a family dinner, where unfortunately, after eating (very little) I felt incredibly weak, almost as though I may faint. Worst of all, I had to excuse myself because I knew I was going to be sick. I've experienced extreme weakness and nausea and occasionally I'm actually sick. Has anyone else experienced this and could it be drug-related. I recently changed mine from Braltis to Trelegy Ellipta. Any thoughts would be helpful. I've only recently been diagnosed level 2 COPD. Thank you.

Hi have you had your thyroid checked? I ask coz I have some of those symptoms and found out I have a borderline under active thyroid.

I hope you feel better soon. It's bad enough with the copd isn't it without anything else happening. x

Thank you so much...I’ll raise it with my doctor. Unfortunately, he doesn’t like patients making their own suggestions. But I’ll try.

Most don't! Google the symptoms of thyroid and see if they fit. Then all you have to do is list them and lead him to suggest it? We must let them keep their illusion of power :) x

Feeling sick and vomiting are not common side effects of COPD. I think you should go and see your gp to get youself checked over, i hope you are feeling better soon

Thank you Corriena...I didn’t think they were either, but there is so little real knowledge about this disease, especially with many GPs that I thought I’d ask fellow sufferers instead. However, I will get it checked out...it’s a horrible experience. Xx

It could be drug related. I have had the same problem with inhalers and blood pressure tablets. Sometimes it's not immediate, so you don't always put it down to the meds. Hope that helps. Pat x

It's so difficult to get the drugs right. X

One incidence of nausea isn't a likely pointer toward a drug issue. More likely viral or something you ate, probably before the family dinner as these things take hours to emerge.

If it persists maybe worth mentioning to GP.

Thank you...but I'm beginning to think it's brought on by a general feeling of weakness which on occasion becomes severe. I feel faint and at the point of collapse. Shortly following extreme sense of weakness I vomit...this has happened three times since Nov (2018/19) this year.

I’m not sure about inhalers but are you sure it isn’t a viral thing? There is so much about at the moment!

If you had this more often I might consider thyroid issues (as hypercat54 also suggested) as well as food intolerances. I have both and often feel slightly nauseous especially after eating out when it’s more likely that I’ll eat something I shouldn’t. Dairy has that effect on me for example!

Thank you. Your comment makes sense. I'll discuss with my GP.

Hi, I have had problems with inhalers and upset stomach, always brush your teeth or rinse your mouth out after using inhalers, there are a lot of flu type bugs out there at present, so if it continues have a word with your GP and maybe try another inhaler, it took me 2 years to find one that didn't have side effects. Check the side effects listed on the leaflet and check your inhaler online for common side effects.

Good luck.

Steve

Absolutely agree. You must rinse your mouth etc. I was aware that not doing so can lead to stomach problems. Thank you x

Hi, even though I have always rinsed my mouth after using inhalers, some have still affected my stomach, so you need to talk with your GP/Resp Nurse.( I have an underactive thyroid and take pills for that, they have not caused me stomach problems since being diagnosed years ago.)

One more thing my thyroid brought me was indigestion. I find now if I don't take my omezaprole I will wake up in the early hours of the morning feeling sick. I then chuck up down the toilet (not just my last meal but everything until my stomach is completely empty) which is horrible. This is without drinking or eating anything specially - it's totally random. x

Not so good...I stopped taking omezaprole regularly, only taking them when my indigestion was unbearable. Might have to rethink that now x

Might help. I didn't find it accumulative coz I was only without 2 days when I ran out. The first night I chucked up and the 2nd I gulped loads of rennies and drank milk which kept it at bay. x
