Hi everyone I don’t post on hear very often but love reading all your posts on copd. My question is I have mild copd and working at the moment trying my best to stay away from people, my work will be sending me to another job where I will work less than 2 metres from someone I’m making myself sick with worry over this, Do I need to worry that much as I’m mild copd???? Thanks for all advice in advance

Hi janec68, everyone who’s not with someone they live with needs to stay at last 2 metres apart. I think you should have a chat with work as mild or not, you still have COPD.

Stay safe xxxxx

Thanks for advice have had a chat with manager could have saved my breath. Part of my job have to go to other unit just make sure I’m away from others, I know is impossible work is bad at the moment so may be pay off so I just have to grin and bear it in the hope I still have a job, not happy but what are you meant to do

Government guidelines applies to all:

No this is not on. The govt says workplaces must enforce social distancing rules. Remind them too that you have copd so you are extra worried about this.

Hi

I have moderate copd and so not shielded. I have not been to work since this all began, I dont intend returning as staying 2 meters apart is not possible, not sure what is going to happen futher on!!!!

I checked with a union and you are only supposed to go to work if you can stay 2 meters apart (underlying condition or not) but having an underlying condition does make you more vulnerable.

Hope this helps, hope you can have a chat with a good outcome with your employer, stay safe x

I myself would definatly worry it dosen matter what stage you are at with your COPD 1,2,3 or 4 you could still catch an infection that could leave you open to covid 19 your airways arecweeker now as you may well know do try to be very careful as antibiotics, steroids and your ingalers may not be able to help and you will need extra please be careful social distance, ware your mask & wash your hands regulary because even doing all this may not help I am at stage 4 and to be very honest I'm scared we are already vulnerable so must be extra careful and vigilant Thus is just my opinion and what doctors have told me

I do hope everything will be well for you just please be careful it's not you but those who go out without a mask or gloves on take care and stay safe 🌈 x

That's a biggy , especially if you are worried about keeping your job. But there are strict guidelines that your employer must have in place before you return to work. Maybe wear a mask, wash your hands more often than usual, don't touch your face de dah de dah. Also tell your workmates that you have a chronic lung disease and you are worried about exacerbations.II am sure they will understand and give you the extra space. Good luck with your first day back

Hi Janec68

You have C O P D like me. I have to say I think you should be at home shielded. Sorry you wont like me saying this. Also if at work do they know you have C O P D? You have rights under The Health and Safety at Work Act, why take chances of risk to your health and even possibly your life over a job. Yep easy for me to say, so I am sorry to be so frank, and indeed understand money does not grow on trees, yet in this moment of uncertain times please do take care of yourself... Ouch who throw that...
