Blood Clot on Lung

Good morning

I recently was diagnosed with a blood clot on my lung, I am now injecting blood thinners, within a week the pain in my right hand side started to ease off. Now four weeks later I have a cold and the pain although not severe is getting worse in the same area especially when I lay down or cough sneeze etc. I have another Drs appointment in a weeks time, should I see the Dr sooner?

Any advice would be great. Thank you

98% of people who get PEs make a complete recovery. So the stats are on your side. But it does no harm to be cautious. What tests did you have when it all started? And was there a reason for the clot? I am one of the very few who did suffer permanent damage from PEs so I am curious about your experience. It took a long time to get the doctors to take it seriously, hence my queries about the tests you have had.

Hi Kate

About 3 months ago I went to my Drs suffering with very heavy periods, I can't remember the name of the medication but it was to reduce/stop the bleeding (often prescribed when you go on holiday) this medication has side effects of blood clots which I now have in my lung! I was then given tablets to thin my blood but this made my periods extremely heavy resulting in me having a blood transfusion and iron infusions. I now injecting clexane and this has reduce my bleeding, thank god!). I also need a hysterectomy but they currently won't operate on me as the blood clot was only 5 weeks ago. I was starting to feel better the pain in my side was easing of, but I have had a horrible cold this past week and the pain has got slightly worse.

I have had chest xray, ct scan on my lungs which confirmed blood clot and last week I had a ct scan on my abdomen and pelvis area not had results yet. I also have had weekly blood tests but I think this may be for the anemia.

Hope you are okay.

Oh my dear, what a package of horrors you are having to contend with. Really tricky. Get to your doctor. I do hope s/he is someone that you have confidence in. And let us know how things develop.

Yes i would and if the dr can't see you dile 111 and let them send you to hospital. Blood clots are serious so you dont want to take any chances. Its probably nothing to worry about but i would be making sure i am seen today. Hope you are feeling better soon
