Sometimes like today I think that my breathing was not as bad when I was still smoking or is that just my imagination has anyone ever had the same feeling

Yes, cigarettes have a bronchodilators, it is not the addictive nicotine...it's several additives that are like cocoa. But....and the but...people keep smoking to what they think is breathing better, but each cigarette harm's your lungs more and more, in the long run...the cigarette companies made them that way to keep people addictive one way or another. I am so glad I haven't smoked, and it doesn't even cross my mind...

Hi yes this is sometimes the case. I am more short of breath since I packed in the ciggies though my lung function stayed the same. Cigarettes have a soothing effect on the airways whilst they are doing the most damage. I think the further along your copd is the more short of breath you become, but it is a fair exchange for stopping any more damage I think. After a certain stage it is less about being healthier but more about damage limitation.

It is better to stop smoking whilst you have a choice coz if ciggies give you up first then you are in major trouble! x

Apparently smoking used to be recommended by doctors to ease sore throats! Apparently there used to be adverts proclaiming the health benefits of cigarettes!

I don’t think it is your imagination as I experienced the same thing. Most people say they feel so much better after quitting but that was not the case for me but I knew quitting was still the right thing to do as it was necessary to reduce the likelihood of further damage to the lungs.

You don't imagine it Duff, I always thought that I could breathe more easily after the first couple of fags, they seemed to bump start my lungs. Now I know the things that I know it was madness on my part. Polly X
