You should be fine taking both medications. The prednisolone should make you feel better, I have taken the carbosistein and steroids at the same time with no problems. 😊

Welcome to the forum. The pharmacist is probably right, it's always advisable to read the leaflets that come with medication (in the uk anyway) very thoroughly indeed.

Prednisolone should be taken as early as possible in the morning with a little food not on an empty stomach. If I take it I'll have a couple of oatcakes alongside the pred & a glass of water to take . If I take later the pred disrupts sleep - but that's me, we're all different.

It's most advisable to see a doctor or walk in clinic to get your lungs listened to as soon as possible in case there's an infection of any kind.

Hello 😃 So sorry to hear you are feeling so lousy. You can absolutely take the two together and they will probably help, but you need to get to the root of the problem. Why are you so breathless? Do you have an infection? If you do have an infection, you need antibiotics and quickly. Your surgery should be able to send a doctor out to you if you are too poorly to go there.

I would recommend that you call your surgery and get, maybe initially a phone appointment. The doctor can then assess and come out to you if necessary.

I hope you're soon better xx

Gosh aren't you lucky, what part of the country do you live Leo. My surgery dont send doctors out anymore, even when I brought my mum home from Spain after suffering heart failure I had to take her in a taxi as the doctor wouldn't come out and that was years ago x

I live in East Sussex, on the Kent border. I do realise how lucky I am and feel very sad for those of you who don’t have such a warm service as I.

When I went yesterday for a steroid injection, my doctor was there open armed “Laurie, how lovely to see you, haven’t seen you since before Covid……” I asked him to check me over whilst I was there and all through he was asking me about how I was doing and obviously knew what had been happening even though he hadn’t seen me.

On the way out he said that if I needed him for anything, that he was there - just call. I have been at the surgery for 40 (😱) years, but hugs and first name terms is very special! I now also live 5miles from the surgery and not once have they baulked at coming out or suggested I change doctors. Blessed indeed ❤️

Shame about the local hospital, locally known as the “Kent and Snuffit”(Sussex)!

We hear a lot about bad doctors, so it’s nice to be able to praise where praise is due xx

Takes me back to my childhood when the family doctor knew each and every one of us by name and would never refuse a call out. Its so lovely to hear there are a few still left Leo and yes praise where praise is due x

Yes, call 111. I believe they have more sway than mere patients. Good luck

Welcome to the forum. I've taken these meds together without ill effect, except insomnia brought on by the pred. You could try phoning the AsthmaLung helpline for advice. ( Number at top of page.) Hope you're soon feeling better. xxx

Have you got a chest infection? If you can cough up mucus, take a sample of it to your surgery. I've even had bacteria in my mucus when it looks to have an innocuous colour. Hope you keep sample pots in stock. Your sample will be analysed in the local hospital to see if you have an infection, and propose the best antibiotic to sort out the bug. Some bugs require intravenous AB's to knock out. I've been on Carbocistiene for probably 12 years, and occasionally been prescribed prednisolone with no ill effects, in fact the doctors wouldn't prescribe them together if there was any problem.

Have you got a lungs specialist looking after you at your local hospital?

I've said this many times on this site, make sure there is no black mould hiding anywhere in your home. Anywhere water leaks may occur; kitchen, bathroom or roof. I'm afraid it can hide out of sight. It was found in our bathroom under the bath and floor tiles when we changed our bath for a walk-in shower in April 2018. This was eradicated, and since then have had no chest infections, apart from a stint in hospital with pneumonia and pleurisy.

No problem with carbosistine and prednisolone b ut if you are taking a steroid I am assuming you have an infection. If so what anti-biotic are you taking? If not you need to see a GP. What level of prednisolone are you taking?
