Prince February I've been on carbocisteine and new inhalers. Suddenly I have swollen gums that bleed and teeth wobble. I've always had perfect white healthy teeth etc so this has shocked me. Dentist doesn't care n I'm going to loose my teeth. Anyone else had problems with gums ?

Side effects to inhalers or carbocisteine
Hi, and welcolme to the site. I have had no trouble with carbocisteine, probably the steroids in your inhaler. Regards Pat
Having had perfect teeth too, no problems until 6 years ago, no cavities or fillings, my gums are disappearing and my teeth are crumbling. My bottom back and side teeth are almost all gone. The dentist was rude and would not believe I take care of my teeth. I haven’t been back to the dentist since 3 years ago when I had an infection, because the dentist was so unkind. (Ok and I have a serious fear of the dentist!) But, since finding this community I’ve learned these problems are caused by the inhalers, which had I known at the time I’d have been able to say this to the dentist. I use a spacer with all my inhalers now, it’s supposed to reduce the side effects somewhat, and rinse my mouth out afterwards too. Best wishes to you.
How awful for you. I hope you get to the bottom of what is causing the problem. Good wishes meantime.
If you are taking oral steroids or have an inhaler containing steroids that is most probably the cause.
Hi, I have the same problem I'm 51 and my bottom gums are disappearing. I'm on a lot of medication also including steroid inhalers steroids and antibiotics continuously. I'm scared if seeing the dentist as they wanted to clean below the gumline with injections and just can't bring myself to having it done. He said the same if I don't do it will lose my teeth.
Thankyou guys so much. You have no idea how relieved I am to hear I'm not alone x
