Update on Braltus Rash?

Hi all,

Just an update on the rash situation...

Rash has spread to base of spine - legs - inside of arms - ribs - both sides.

Itching and Burning, very sensitive to touch. Also experience increased SOB and soreness in chest.

Saw doctor - tried Betnovate cream and a course of anti-biotics, no effect...

Got an appointment for dermotology clinic, but not til January, (Trying to get it brought forward).

Braltus info sheet states "very rare side effects" of "nettle rash" "SOB" and more...

New doctors appointment on 6th Dec... I am stopping Braltus until then, see if it has any effect. Keeping on with Fostair and Ventolin, exercise etc.

If anyone has experienced any similar effects on being switched to from Spiriva to Braltus Tiotropium, please let me know. (I know everyone is told that there is no difference between the two and that the tiotropium bromide is the same. BUT I HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL UNTIL THE CHANGEOVER... "just coincidence?").

Thanks

Joe

Hi

Spiriva also as skin rash side effect.

I have just received a letter from my GP, informing me of a change to Braltus, as being more cost effective for NHS, collect first batch Thursday will have to see how it goes, it delivers the same dose 10 microgram of Tiotropium bromide.

I have Spiriva. When I’ve been changed onto alternatives or generics of other inhalers some haven’t worked for me, or had side effects, but I’ve been told they’re identical. Well they’re not, maybe the active ingredients are, but it’s all the other stuff, the fillers and the gas that makes it come out, which aren’t the same.

Also, on the information sheets when side effects are listed as very rare, in fact when you look at the section on the leaflet about how many people are affected, it’s not that rare! To me anyway it doesn’t seem that rare. One in one thousand is still a lot of people!

Thanks Hungry...

I did have hypersensitivity in teens - ie: severe hayfever and breathing issues. But this is the first "allergic type" reaction I have had since then. Good to know that others have had issues too. Will post of any changes (hopefully improvements in condition).

Hi im actually just changing my inhalers as my spiriva has been causing a severe case of sores in corners of my nose and mouth ( bit like inflamed skin and coldsore ) very red and sore plus big scabs in my head especially round my hairline right round to the back of head ...it took me a while to realise it was the inhaler as i thought it was nerves at first then medication but after doing a process of elimination and close monitoring from my respiratory team its definately the inhaler ...i have suffered for so long and now i have stopped it the sores and scabs in head have all cleared up ...my respiratory nurse rang me and said she wasnt aware til yesterday that it can also cause hives ...im also on vetalin and fostair so she has ordered me a new 3 in 1 inhaler which still contains the fostair elements which i forget the name as i have not received it yet ...hope you get sorted ..ps i know you switched from spiriva but im just telling you my findings on and also get pain in chest area quite bad at times and faster heart rate which we thought was due to my lung condition only ...but where wrong ...

Sounds terrible for you, Mel.

Poor, poor you! 🌹I’m glad you’ve finally pinpointed the cause. Hoping you feel much better soon. These drugs are a very mixed blessing. Take care 💕 Penny xx

Yes i was thinking that in my head but was unsure ... i cant believe it never registered in my mind earlier regarding the inhaler causing my problems and i only considered it after reading a post on here regarding fostair which i initially thought could be causing it but its the spiriva by the looks ... im just glad the sores have calmed down ...

That sounds horrible. I’ve started getting the sores at the corners of my mouth and it’s not going away, I’ve been putting antiseptic cream on, but it’s not improving. I just thought it must be the cold weather or something like that causing it. It’s not really bothering me though, however what is, is I’ve started getting aches in my knee, foot, sometimes leg and arm, all on my left side. It’s not painful, in fact it almost feels numb. Could this be caused by an inhaler? I’m glad things are improving for you now that you’ve changed inhalers.

Well i have never put any of my unexplained symptons down to inhalers but now i know and am thankful to know it has been the spiriva even down to chest pain like lungs are hurting is the only way of describing it ...i would not like to comment on your symptoms but it is certainly worth going speaking to your GP or respiratory team as im just so relieved i now know after so long whats been causing my sores etc .... xx

Hi Kemety

Thanks for the info - had some scabs on scalp too for a while until recently... seems to have cleared up now tho and had some chest pains too. Never thought of it being related to inhalers, your info helps a lot. If your new 3 in 1 works out for you, can you post the name if poss, maybe an option I can look in to. Thanks again - Joe

They always say there is no difference in inhalers, well in my experience there most certainly is - Braltus had me half-choked and propped on 4 pillows and I totally refused to take it. Have never had a problem with Fostair so, at the moment am just taking that and the odd pull of Ventolin. I researched the Spiriva Handihaler (which I've been on for yonks) and found that some of the side-effects are now very unhelpful; we all respond differently to these things and I think we can develop an intolerance at any time -GPs will not recognise this, it's a one-size-fits-all with most of them. The Spiriva Respimat has far fewer side-effects but my GP denied its existence, so in my up-coming visit he will be presented with a few print-outs; he is treating me for high BP and increased heart-rate, one of the s.e's of the Handihaler is increased heart rate, not Q.E.D but I'm taking no chances.
