Hi primrose123. Garlic is another one of those things that are supposed to help your immune system and help you avoid viruses. I’m not so sure about that but some people swear by it and if you try it and think it helps, why not. It certainly won’t cure the bronch or deal with exacerbations.
Thank you littlepom, I guess it is worth a try, dont think it will do too much harm, hope all good &well with you..x
Hi Primrose - I started taking garlic capsules a couple of years ago. I got advice from a person who is medically qualified and also in therapeutic massage. Can’t be sure if it is the garlic that has made the difference but most years I had back to back exacerbations from October to May and sometimes in the summer months too. For the past two years I have had two each year. My cough is much reduced. I have bronchiectasis and asthma - same as you. Basically, I think you should perhaps get some advice first and make sure you get the right dosage for you before starting to take garlic capsules and if you decide to go ahead give it a year to see it helps you. Good luck!
Thank you Pentreath, was most intrigued by your kind reply,I will be seeing my GP next week & will discuss the dosage with him, I have a bad cough & hopefully like yourself Pentreath the garlic capsules will help me too, many thanks for your sound advice & I wish you best wishes & good health for the future..x
"apart from being delicious it's eaten widely for health benefits including anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood thinning and cholesterol lowering effects & as a natural antibiotic. Some hot countries believe it also controls gut parasites. It's the allicin in garlic which gives the benefit, black garlic contains more than white.
If you're on blood thinning drugs it's best to ask a doctor before consuming a lot of it." - all from my little supplement booklet by Angela Dowden.
That last two winters I took black garlic. Winter 16/17 wasn't to bad but last winter was horrendous, back to back infections from Christmas to Easter so who knows! I will take only black garlic again this winter on the off chance.
Apart from the possibility of blood thinning it can't do much harm
PS I've both asthma and bronchiectasis. P
Hi primrose123, why dont you just use fresh garlic rather than supplements, it can be used in loads of things, I love pressing it into butter to use in flatbreads with flatleaf parsley, put pieces in lamb, beef, chicken etc when cooking, soak some in good olive oil to put onto crusty bread, the uses are endless and tastes lovely. I use it most days, just for the taste, but it does have medicinal advantages. Irene x
Thank you Izb1 for your kind reply,I would much prefer taking fresh garlic as opposed to supplements, but unfortunately garlic fresh,I could not possibly takeas the smell alone would put me off, hence the reason I would opt for ouderless capsules,I firmly believe that fresh products are by far much better&beneficial for your immune system & your general health, but the only way I could take garlic would be in supplement form...Thanks again Izb1 for being so kind &helpful,&I wish you good luck & good health for the future...x
