Husband had a pnumothorax a year ago now...he's had scan after scan after test, lung function test, and loads more....he has passed all with flying colours and actual has a scan booked tomorrow. He has just come down with a cold (he says it's in his throat and head) but I am now worrying myself stupid this could turn into another pnumothorax!! I can't stop worrying......I am being treated for anxiety as this whole year has been non stop worry

Hi. Tink. I know how stressful it can be for. Carers Partners friends. Remember. That. Your loved ones are ill and that if you get stressed. He will pick up on it. Know illness can be terriable and a flat lung no fun I know. ? I remember. When my older sister got lung illness. It was terriable seeing her constant struggle 2 yrs I got the same. Life's tough. But. All you can do is your best. Really try. To think. That you being stressed. Will not help any one. Keep your head strong and try to find. Strength to carry on if your stressed. It really can rub of on the person who's kind of causing it and become like a circle of. Pain Painting. Relaxation like favourite music. Or. Peace and quite. Just. Slow your breathing down can help to see things more clearly. BW. And take care. Paul.

Tinkerbell,it's quite rare to suddenly develop a pneumothorax, they normally occur because of other pressure events in the lungs and the most obvious symptoms are normally a fairly deep seated pain in the chest on inhalation and any scan tomorrow would certainly detect an event materialising or in progress so an ideal time to put your worries to rest.

best wishes Ski's and Scruff's x

Thanks everyone, I've really been worrying because they said if it were to happen again it's usually within the first year (it's a year now) so obviously I'm getting myself all worked up. He hasn't been coughing during the night but sounds like he has a heavy cold......

it is when your breathing suddenly gets worse and you have to take your rescue pack ,which is a course of steroids and anti biotics. doc should have explained this , if he/she hasn't i suggest you ask about it .

He was never given anything like this. The pnumothorax was spontaneous, he has no other medical conditions and is otherwise very fit and healthy.

He had his scan today and was told his lungs were clear. So hopefully it's just a cold that will pass.
