IBS and FODMAP diet

First joined this site when my husband Peter was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Sadly he passed away last December - with heart failure.

I am now writing myself as I have IBS and am currently on FODMAP diet. After suffering lots of diarrheoa I was put on Low Fibre diet - this cured the diarrheoa but am now suffering from constipation. Only started FODMAP this week so it is early days. I am unable to drink orange juice or similar due to another problem. I was on Normacol but got side effects from it. Any suggestions greatfully received.

There is an IBS community if you search under communities that would be more appropriate to help you better I think.

Hi I also suffer with IBS (I have emphysema too). I have suffered with IBS since I was 11 years old. I am now 71. My doctor introduced me to the FODMAP diet several years ago and I have to say it has made so much difference to my life. Try to stick with it as it is worth it. Barbs x

Hello. I have IBS (2 years now). It took me about 10 months to get to diagnosis by which time I was extremely frustrated and at my wits end as it was a nightmare to leave the house (my diarrhoea was roughly 6 times a day and very painful). I tried FODMAPS but unfortunately it didn't work for me. What did work however, was a food intolerance test. I used one called York Test. I was very sceptical as there were very mixed reviews but it turned out to be great for me (and to be honest I was so desperate by that point I would have tried anything). I paid, did the test and about 2-3 weeks later I had my results. I then avoided those foods, and it took a little while, about 6/8 weeks, but now I don't have symptoms at all unless I eat one of my "banned" foods (and then my reaction happens very quickly - approx. 30-40 mins after eating). Not ideal for everyone but definitely saved me. All the consultant suggested was a tablet that even he said he didn't think would work! So really I didn't have any choice. I wish you luck with your journey and I hope you manage to get to a point where you can maintain it at a level acceptable to you.

Try a supplement called Iberogast. It’s excellent for IBS. My daughter is a dr in Australia. She tells me quite a few of her patients take it. You have to buy it. Amazon sell it I believe.
