Hello Briancoombs, and welcome to our forum. Yes you are right about excercise being good for copd sufferers, and as long as it's comfortable for you at a steady pace then carry on, it will help to keep your lungs working. My attitude is, do everything in moderation at your own pace. You seem to have a positive attitude which is a good thing. Keep going and keep well. ✋️😉
I tend to walk rather than use weights due to osteoarthritis. My FEV1 as improved by about 15% in my case there are definite benefits to exercise.
Hi Briancoombs you are so right I have just taken a 14 week course of pulmonary rehab wish I could carry on but you can’t. So joined a keep fit once a week. 😀😀😀
In some areas you can carry on victoriablue. When folks have completed the PR course in my area, they qualify for weekly 'maintenance' sessions. These are overseen by NHS physios - the sessions are based on the PR course routine but we can do our own thing if we want to. For instance since Ive had arthritic pain in my elbows and thumbs, as an alternative I now do triceps dips (youtube will have vids on how to do this one) which strengthen the same muscles as the upright rows that most courses do.
It really doesnt matter what exercise you do as long as there is enough of both aerobic and anaerobic work. Why dont you get together with a friend from the PR course and do workouts together? Get your physio's approval for doing that. Or find a local walking group online. Anything, it really doesn't matter, just keep up some regular exercise otherwise you will be likely to relapse.

Hi, good for you the exercise must really pay off. To improve further you could try "power breath" a gadget that can be adjusted to build up the breathing muscles and possibly make exercising even easier.

Hi Briancoombs .
I like Badbessie have a form of arthritis, in my case Rheumatoid Arthritis, so carrying anything too heavy causes inflammation and pain. I walk as much as I can and it helps me feel good. I have a treadmill for rainy days.
Well done with your exercise regime.

Hello Brian. I have got emphysema and copd and I go to Pulmonary rehab and do the exercises at home and I couldn’t agree with u more it does make me feel better. I now go to Pulmonary rehab once every 6 weeks and talk to the people who have just started stitching and try to encourage them to keep it up. I do it voluntarily but if u can’t help other people it is a sorry old world. Good luck to u and best wishes from this end. 👍🤓
I TOTALLY agree. Thank you for sharing that👍
Hi we completed a 6 week course then 8 weeks maintenance hoping the keep fit is as good 😀😀
That has certainly been my experience. And feeling heaps better for the exercise. Don't use it, you lose it
