Can't say I can savvy these results same as say Stone_uk.

FEV1 percet - 48%

FVC/Expected FVC result 46%

Percent predicted FVC1 51%

Peak Flow rate 240

Forced Vital Capacity -FVC 1.7 litre

What I can never work out is this Mild, moderate? - i was at near severe at one stage but stopped smoking and the results improved but, with every test as shown on a graph over the last 5 years, my lung function seems to be going down every year.. As the number of flare ups seems to mean stopping smoking, the honeymoon seems to be over. and fare ups on the rise,Anyone any idea what these values mean?

Fev1 .is your lung percentage what you can breathe out in 1 second usually what the drs go by.so I usually go by that or you will confuse others . So if Fev1 is 46% this brings you just into severe.Keeping active, away from smoke/smokes and this could improve this to over 50% to take you into moderate. I was fev1 56% moderate when diagnosed which took a dip after diagnosis to mid 40s.severeThen I stopped smoking, lounging about feeling sorry for myself, sourced the correct inhalers and my Fev1 is now 76%. So positive action and attitude my friend

Keep away from peeps with colds , bonfires and major pollutants. Don’t sit around too long. Worth a try?

Thank's for that hypercat - I eat healthy, keep as active as possible, don't smoke but it creeps forward..Not been to bad this summer, winter and the flare ups start.....

Try some singing exercises each day to strengthen the muscles that work your lungs and to improve your lung health. There are plenty on YouTube, or you can find a singing group through the British Lung Foundation website.

Hi Ergendl - I see where you are coming from, but sing I can't. I can walk easier than I can sing. You really would not like to here me sing - tone deaf..;-)

I've heard that many times before. There's only one person who really can't sing in my singing group Breathe Better Sing Together, and that's only over part of the vocal range, because they're partly deaf, but no-one tells them to stop - we're all there to improve lung health, not to perform in front of others. Most of the regular attenders were told they can't sing in the past, because they can't sing a normal pitched tune as they have lower range voices and are altos, baritones or basses. Give them a low pitched song and they're fine.

And not being able to sing is no excuse for not singing at home when no-one's around. :)

I’ve started singing to my little cat. The first time, she looked terrified! But she’s kind of getting used to it. I can’t carry a tune so I’m not singing songs as such, but I sing what’s going on, or what my plans are for the day, or what her plans are for the day as these tend to be more interesting than mine!

My husband and I were doing a sip sip hiss hiss singing exercise in the kitchen. Suddenly we saw our cat Tinker peering round the door with eyes as big as saucers - he thought we were having a feline face-off! :)

I suppose I could try Wandering Star or would that be a grunt, rather than singing? ;-)

Whatever you want to call it, he did pretty well for himself singing that. You could give it a go 😁

I have tried that watching it on You tube, bit easier than a Tenor I suppose but it hurts the throat going so low down the scale..

Wanderin' Star - a favourite at our singing group.
