Did you know today was Book Lovers Day??

There’s nothing like a good book and a hot cuppa, feet up on a rainy day!

What are you reading at the moment?

Well I have just finished an Icelandic detective novel called « Snjór» by Ragnar Jónasson..not impressed..which I was reading at the same time as «The truth about Melody Browne» by Lisa Jewell..different but an easy read.

Now I will start on « The Immortalists» recommended by Good Housekeeping’s bookclub! 😉 Well I’m trying!!! 😃

What do you recommend??

Love,

Fran xx

I’m reading The Trouble With Goats and Sheep by Joanna Cannon. It’s an easy read and quite funny but mostly I love it because of her descriptive writing. I also like ‘cosy crime’ novels such as the Cherringham series and the Falconer stories. I read a lot of sixteenth century history and am waiting for the latest Shardlake novel to make an appearance. So you can see that I mix it up a lot.

Thank you littlepom!! 😊 Adding it all to my list!!

I love reading Fran and am reading Mark Billingham Love Like Blood.

I’m a big fan of the Roy Grace novels by Peter James. I do like a good thriller and real page turner.

Enjoy whatever you read and lovely to see Aria so relaxed. Xxx 💕💖

Comfy Puss.😊 I like Phillipa Gregory. Usually. Just read her latest. Not up to scratch. Reading"Harry's last stand" fab. Social comment. Might re-read "the Handmaid's tale" having watched n enjoyed the recent series. Love getting lost in a book. 😉✌️🌻

in reply toDubba61

Getting comfier yes 😻thank you.

I haven’t read her latest.

Who wrote “Harry’s last stand”?

I finished the second season of the Handmaid’s tale, I didn’t get the end..well I suppose it was to prepare for a third season.. still. Won’t say why in case I spoil it for someone but hard to swallow.

So do I..searching for that book which makes a difference nowadays. I feel I read a lot of rubbish..I like well written books, and a good story.

Love,

Fran x

Harry's last stand's is by Harry Leslie Smith. He's big on Twitter. Just an ordinary old Army fella, whose concerned about how the Country is these days. Makes an interesting read. " The Handmaid's tale" series was harrowing, makes you think though. Book is better and a bit different. N yes, your right, no, Mark Twain's, Dickens, n J.R.R. Tolkien's, C.S.Lewis et. El. These days. 😊✌️🌻

in reply toDubba61

Ok thanks I will look Harry up 😊🐣🍰🌺

I love The Handmaids Tale on TV but find it quite scary as it is possible.

Very well written and played on screen.

in reply toArtist44

Yes something dark about it..there was an interview of the actress on Woman’s Hour on Radio 4 a while back. Very interesting.

Ahhh I like never ending stories 😃 I read « We need to talk about Kevin» by Shriver, quite a book! Enjoy xx

I decided to download a book today but also downloaded the Audio app as I love to be read to and it stops my eyes watering.

The big disadvantage is - I’m usually asleep within 15 minutes and miss most of the story.

This means scrolling back until I remember where I was.

Not sure it’s such a good idea.

in reply toArtist44

Yes Jeanrita audiobooks what a good idea!

Ahhh I understand what you mean about scrolling back, it is not like falling asleep with a book in your hand..

You can find audiobooks on YouTube as well.

Have a nice evening x

I didn’t know you can find audiobooks on YouTube. It had never occurred to me to look there. Is it just audio or is there someone sitting there reading the book?

Right now I’m reading Benjamin Zephaniah’s autobiography. I read about 1/3 of it in one particularly sleepless night. Also I’m reading a book about astrophysics which is really interesting ✨

in reply toHungryHufflepuff

Both depending on what’s on offer..

Spent a lot of time recently on The Vision and Beyond by Maggie Shaw. Weird adventure with an evocative depiction of depression.

I listen to audio books, love that I can listen while doing housework, in the car and when I go to bed, I put the timer on my book and bookmark, so if I fall asleep I know to just start from my bookmark. Currently listening to Confession by Jo Spain. Love physcological thrillers x

in reply toShirleyj

Thank you Shirley 🌺 I’ll look into it xx

Just finished reading 'The Underground Railway' by Colson Whitehead' - a brilliant story about slavery in Georgia. Won the Pulitzer Prize 2017.

Before that I read Big, little lies by Lianne Moriarty and enjoyed it

Worth looking at.

Best wishes

I haven’t read the Pulitzer price.

I don’t suppose this is the place to be asking for technical advice. And I’m totally intruding on your conversation. But I’d like to ask for advice about Kindle. I currently have Kindle on my iPad, when I want to buy a book I go to Amazon and the book appears in the Kindle on my iPad. However, when I’m out and about I don’t tend to take my iPad so I thought of getting the Kindle app on my phone, which I haven’t done yet. Silly question alert: if I want to buy a book, or download a free book, to put on my phone, how do I do it so it goes on my phone and not my iPad?

I know I should just try it and see but I worry about these things, and the other day I bought a digital album on Amazon, I already have albums and singles on my Amazon music app, but the album never appeared there. I’m not sure if it was the wrong format or if it went to the wrong place, but I managed to get other stuff there so I don’t know what I did wrong that time.

Any advice would be gratefully received and much appreciated.

in reply toHungryHufflepuff

Sorry I have no idea! My daughter sets it all up for me. Usually she says type your question on google or utube and you will get all the explanations you need. It works.

HungryHufflepuff

Okay, thanks for your reply 👍 I’ll give google a go. My technical knowledge is along the lines of; if it works it works, if it doesn’t it doesn’t! 😄

Just seen this post. i read quite a lot. A book that I enjoyed, some time ago now, was The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber. I passed it on to my daughter in law, she enjoyed it and passed it to her friend, who also liked it. Authors I like are Margaret Attwood, C.J.Sanson,Kate Atkinson, Sebastian Faulks, Anita Shreve.... At the moment I am readng A son of War by Melvyn Bragg.
