Swollen itchy hot feet

Both my feet are swollen hot & itchy, my skin seems quite thin as they are also leaking with pus. Wearing any sort of footwear rubs the skin & makes them very painful but when I go out I have to wear shoes which aggravates them. I went to the Dr a few months ago with the problem, had blood test which was fine so just gave me a Steroid cream which hasn't solved the complaint. Please can help if anyone suffers with the same condition. Thank you. I also suffer with COPD but shouldn't think there is any connection.

Go back to the doctors and explain that the last cream did not work, it might be that you will have to cream your skin everyday now to help protect it. I have swollen lower legs, feet and ankles and cream my skin everyday now and take care to try not to bump my skin and wear loose cotton socks and wide fitting shoes not much of a fashion statement. I have several lung diseases including COPD and for me it is the amount of medication I have to take that causes some of the swelling.

My husband also has the same problem but he has developed lymphedema's in both legs due to the removal of his lymph glands. And I am afraid he is being a bit stubborn at the moment and will not cream his legs, so they are getting weepy and itchy. He has an appointment at the doctors tomorrow so I have warned him that I am going with him and the doctor and myself will have to play bad cop, bad cop and make him look after himself a bit better as I'm not always well enough these days to be his nurse.

Take care of yourself.

Men! My husband is a lovely man but...

His feet swell frequently and as he has very wide feet anyway shoes are a real problem. I have tried to encourage him to have his feet raised when he sits watching tv but no. Normally his feet are okay when he gets up, then swell during the day. In this hot weather the swelling is much more than his normal and isn't going down completely overnight.

My husband is just as stubborn his legs break out from etopic eczema he has treated by district nurses. He also suffers bad back pain but refused to go back to GP cos the tablets haven't work, not that he took them all. He will soon be 78 but flatly refuses to have his hearing tested. He really does need hearing aids.

My husband has very flaky skin on his feet and legs , he had very swollen legs and feet and the GP prescribed Furosemide diuretic , the swelling is better , but the skin is just the same , even with the cream he has called Diprobase . He has Aspergillosis with Aspergilloma , Emphysema , and heart irregularities . I wonder why the feet and legs skin is so affected

Gravity makes the fluid gather in the feet and legs during the day. Sleeping with the bottom of the bed raised by the height of a brick so that the feet are higher than the heart, can help, but this may not be so good if you also suffer from a lot of mucus. Try cutting down on your salt intake. If I have a micromeal or takeaway or eat out, I retain 2 litres of fluid during the day rather than 1 litre. At home I eat a very low salt diet, which helps, as a lot of the meds I take are potassium losing, and the body balances potassium and the sodium in salt to control fluid retention and loss.

Hi Jansy16 .

I don't really know much about this topic, it could be a circulation issue. Do try and prop your feet up when you are sitting or lying down.

Since you last saw your doctor a few months ago, I think you need to go back, urgently. You may also need antibiotics if your skin becomes infected. Do you have high blood pressure or heart or liver issues? Maybe something worth investigating. Please also watch your salt intake. Keeping a healthy weight is important too.

I feel for you. It sounds like you are in quite a bit of discomfort. Please do ask your doctor for a thorough examination. I really hope you get some relief very soon.

Warm wishes,

Cas xx 👒

My mother had a problem with swollen legs that were leaking fluid and her GP put her on a strong water tablet for just a week after which her legs were back to normal and healed though she does need to moisturise them daily.

Hi, there maybe a connection with the COPD, I've just had a test for oxygen and the testing nurse would not carry out the test whilst my ankles & feet where swollen and wouldn't have it that the COPD mught be the cause even tho' the Dr at the hospital sent a letter.

I don't think my problem is a s bad as yours but I would suggest that your wear cotton socks/stockings, take water tablets (like Furosemide) and Spironolactone, keep foot/feet elevated as much as you can and let the air get to them as much as possible. Can't say much about the puss, but suggest these few options with your GP. You may have already tried them but this has been useful for me at least.

I know this sounds silly but drink loads of water, (hate drinking water) I poo pooed this but my legs and feet were so swollen and itchy that I followed my friends advice, lo and behold my legs are not swelling any more, no longer itch can get my shoes on again taking water tablets made the situation worse sorry to say. Hope it works for you.

Will try to drink more water, thanks for the advice. How much should I drink.

I am managing a litre and a bit plus my usual 3 decaf coffees, am hoping to get to the recommended 2 litres but that sounds so much, I really didn't believe my friend when she said drink water, your reaction to water retention is to drink less isn't it? Didn't like the having to get up two or three times in the night at first but even that is now no longer necessary.
