Head Sweats

I am married to a GP, he has little interest in my night head sweats, doesn’t seem at all bothered and not anxious BUT I am. My head sweats started about five years ago, I now have to use two towels a night to cover my pillows! I wake up drenched, sweat like tear drops on my forehead, but t’s very upsetting. If anyone can give any info that my Doctor husband can’t, I’d be delighted 🍀

Sounds like menopausal night sweats to me. Have you tried progesterone therapy?

Not menopausal, had complete abdominal hysterectomy when I was 37, within six weeks straight into early menopause. Am now 64!

I also had a complete hysterectomy in my 30s went straight into menopause. I am now 66 and still get day and night sweats. Hope you find a solution soon.

Hi have you posted on the right site? This one is for those with lung problems. Do you have a lung issue we can help with? x

When I searched the web for head sweats, this one came up

Ah head sweats may be a sign of lung disease then! It sounds like you need to get your lungs checked out as lung problems could be causing it. I would ask your doctor for a spirometry test and if you smoke you need to quit. x

Thats quite a stab in the dark really .. could be loads things IF was me i would rule out thyroid issues or diabetes one's.

Hi Imtoohot, it must have something to do with your hormones, have them check it out at the hospital. You could try the herbal remedies for menopause, see if it helps. I started the menopause just under 40 and have never stopped having problems with sweats and am now 66. Hope you get it sorted. Irene x

I know it might seem a bit simplistic, but is your bedding too hot? I have bought some cotton sheets, and a lightweight duvet. I also have an electric cool air fan and a small hand held battery one.

If I have an infection I get night sweats......hopefully your blood tests will check for any infection.

A classic sign of vitamin D deficiency, have you had it tested recently? I have had this, not a good look in the morning! But it has improved by taking vitamin D and co-factors which help. I even supplement in summer, albeit a smaller dose. It is my understanding that once you become deficient in vitamin D you may always need to supplement. The effects of this deficiency are extremely underestimated by GPs.

Whilst you are waiting to find out the cause there is a cooling pillow cover that you can buy online.

Hi, GPs eh! Do you have one of your own? Definitely mention it at your hospital visit.

It's not so bad coming to this forum, most of us are very 'symptom aware, we've had to be. We've learnt to be proactive (without being hyperchondriac)!

I've had lots of blood tests recently too. They all cam back fine which is odd because I know I have very high cholesterol. I also know I'm borderline diabetic, this was news from a very good respiratory nurse who actually read my medical records, read letters from consultants & boods results. She asked me what I was dong about the diabetes. My reply was "what diabetes"? and her next one as "didn't the GP tell you?"

Now, I've been twice to the GP in the last 5years with blood sugar concerns grrr. One of the symptoms is head sweating, along with jelly weak legs, complete weakness & go deathly white. It coincides always with missing a meal, being very late for a meal or after eating a bag of dolly mixtures I'd bought for grandchild (they're not allowed sugar 😁 silly granny). I've never been a 'sweaty' person so I know something isn't right. My solution now is to always carry a few oatcakes around with me.

It's very interesting that it could be low vitamin D3. Good luck with a diagnosis. P

PS try putting 'NHS/Pathways/sweating head' on your search bar

If you Google 'vitamin D council' it states what levels should be, the dose you should be taking for required level and the many symptoms that are associated with vit D deficiency. Hope this helps.

Change your Dr. !! Sorry couldn't resist that , men don't understand do they ?? It could be the menopause ,I had similar but not as bad as needing two towels. ,bless you xx

Have recently purchased one of the chill pads online. Put it into the fridge for two hours before bedtime, pop it into a pillow case and lay it across your pillow. That’s all there is to it, it works! xx

Hello, Years ago I started out with Hives. Then it went to itchy sores about my body. My whole head was soaking wet at night! Very intense itching lasted 9 months. Doctors could not find what was wrong! So off to U of M in Michigan. They found I had a tumor ,they THOUGHT was in my lungs, it wasn't. It was in my thymus gland, behind my lung. It was Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The kind Jacky Kennedy died of! Chemo was started...night sweats on my head, stopped, INTENSE ITCHING stopped! Thank God for that Chemo! No more itching!!!! Thank God!!! Take what you need and leave the rest, it may help others on here? Hope you find the problem! Janet127
