emphysema tired
Hello lenney007, I too have Emphaseama and have had for many years. I get tired very easily and I think it's to do with using a certain amount of energy. For instance for me to get out of my armchair, into my wheelchair takes energy and if I do it too fast I become breathless. It's all about slowing down to conserve energy and feeling less tired. I hope I have helped you. It's like if you are breathless, then you have to slow your breathing down in order to get it under control. Take care and keep Intouch. ✋️😉
Hi Lenney. Partly it is due to people with pulmonary disease having to use more energy just to breathe compared to those with normal lungs, and the more severe the disease, the greater is the energy used just to breathe.
Hotter weather does not help COPD sufferers either as air volume contains less oxygen density.
IE: Cold air will have more oxygen due to the density of the molecules being closer together. Warm air has less density of molecules. Thus, when you breathe in cool/cold weather, you are getting more oxygen into your lungs. Hot weather produces the feeling of "hard to breathe" due to the less amount of oxygen density, making us use even more energy.
Hope things improve for you.
John.
thanks for info john even in winter dont like going out doctor said avoid going out when its 4 or below

I too have emphysema and have the same "tired" feeling much of the time. I now have to have a carer each morning to wash & dress me, this does provide some motivation to get going to get my shaving & toiletry out of the way before they come, rather than get them to wait whilst paying for their time. I set myself small tasks to get done in the day and that even coping with breathlessness keeps me going.
Take heart, there are many people on this forum that have the same feelings, you are not alone, but set yourself some goals to get you going. Think if you just eat & sleep you will get fat and that itself requires more effort to move around, a vicious circle.

Hi Keith, I know what you mean. With me it's either sleepless nights or wanting to stay in bed due to tiredness. Some days I have yo fight to get up. But I'll go for that anytime. Unfortunately it's part of the disease and I have accepted that I need to sleep more in the daytime but must try to be active as well. If you can take up something like swimming which could improve your stamina.
All the very best.
Hello lenney, I understand how you feel, I feel so tired and it makes me feel sad sometimes, some days just walking to bathroom I get so breathless and so tired. I wake up feel breathless in the morning sometimes and I really struggle to get up but I do because I have to eat breakfast and take my medication. I do have a lot of medication to take. I need to gain weight but I have hard time to eat because even eating makes me feel tired. I try to drink high calorie energy drink when I can or try to drink carrot or kale juice to feel energy. And fruits too.
am drinking loadsa energy drinks it dont work this it down road now a cant get up no 1 to taLK too
Hi Lenney, are you on oxygen? I've had a couple of bad weeks when I could not get up, I would set the alarm clock, switch it off when it rang, and go back to sleep, sometimes until late afternoon.
I am on oxygen 24/7 and the respiratory nurse did a check to see how much carbon dioxide I had in my blood, it was far too high and thought this was the reason for me being so tired all the time. I am now on half a litre when sleeping, one litre during the day not doing too much and two litres when I do anything that requires some energy, like getting dressed. It seems to be a bit of a habit now but I am hoping I can get up a little earlier each day. Try not to be too depressed, there are lots of people on this site you can talk to and will help you, are you able to exercise? that really helps, after saying that, I am suffering from the heat and very high pollen count and can't do much at all at the moment, but I know when the weather changes it could be to my advantage. Look after yourself.
