Just tired

Hello all, is it normal to feel tired and ache all over most of the time? I've just had my 2 weeks antibiotics no pred this time and I've woken up tired and like my body has run a marathon, not that I would really know what that felt like. I have COPD Bronchiectasis (can't spell it) heart failure and some syndrome that means my organs are in the wrong place, other than that I'm fine and dandy except for the tiredness, lead boots and a very heavy blanket, that's what it feels like I'm wearing, anyone else get it and if so what to do about it? I'm told that slobbing in my recliner is not an option but gawd it feels good. 😁

Hi Nut,

I can imagine with all that going on you might feel pretty tired as your body has to work that bit harder to work and if you’re just recently finished antibiotics then it’s had to fight an infection too.

If it’s ongoing too, just as an extra, it might be worth a chat with your GP to check iron levels etc

Some of the others will be along soon with some good advice I’m sure!

Dee 😊

Steroids..prednisone....do have strange effects, including joint pain and tiredness. I was on high levels after being hospitalised with lung infection..I have severe COPD. I can honestly say nothing has given me such weakness and tiredness as recovery after these steroids in the system. Stay on as low a dose as possible so that your own immune system can keep working too.

The increased effort of just breathing can be exhausting, many of us find that. Plus your body fighting off the infection, as madonbrew has said . Do try to keep moving though, being a couch potato will do you no favours at all and can easily become a habit.

Hi Nutz

Hard to say why you are feeling like this, perhaps chat with your doctor, it may or may not be lung related with all you have going on healthwise.

Certainly inactivity can result in these symptoms and so can heart and lung issues / breathing. I really feel it is best to discuss these symptoms with yourdoctor who may want to send you for further tests or perhaps just refer you back for a pulmonary rehabilitation education course to get you back on your feet and able to keep fitness ongoing.

Keep moving however little you can manage, but don't push yourself too hard, it will help to your recovery.

Good Luck and hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi and a very warm welcome to you. Fatigue goes with all three of the conditions you mention, especially following an infection/antibiotics but if it is unusually excessive for you you might want to get it checked out with a clinician.

You mention a ‘syndrome’ which means that your organs are in the wrong place. Would this be PCD. If so I hope you are under the care of a respiratory clinician with a special interest in cf/pcd/bronchiectasis.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Love cx

Some time ago I too felt like this. I had a blood test and my thyroid had stopped working and I was seriously anemic! Iron tablets, red meat (yuk) and levothyroxine helped a great deal

Believe it or not I do have a thyroid problem, it was operated on in 1988 and I have been on levothyroxine ever since, I have regular blood tests to check it's behaviour. 😁

That's a coincidence! I had to have mine removed eventually as I had a goitre. I hope you get to the bottom of your fatigue, though sometimes I think it can just be copd fatigue.

I have bronchiectasis now been told its COPD amongst other related lung problems and always feel half dead especially in the mornings but going outside for a small walk just to get fresh air into my lungs is good, very slow walking and sounding like a steam train but it is helping me. Hope you can manage just a few steps as breathing the same air indoors I find sometimes makes it worse and just a few steps outside in the fresh air will help. Hope you soon feel a lot better.👍

So sorry that you are feeling so rubbish. I can't add anything to what 2greys and Bkin have already said but I do hope that you begin to feel a lot better soon. Like you my heart is not in good shape and after many tests i was told that my breathing problems are more to do with the state of my heart more than my lungs but I do try to do some exercise every day even when I really don't feel like it. Good luck and best wishes. xx Sue😊😊

Yes,that sounds like me! I could quite happily lie on the couch all day! I dont know what to blame,my condition, my medication, lockdown......I write a to do list every morning and try to at least achieve one or two jobs. When I think of what I used to do a few years ago!!

Oh that tiredness is such a downer. I am just learning to be slower and pleased with what I do. To my surprise I very slowly walked around a garden yesterday. I am telling myself that I saw more and that is probably right.

Take care and any small activity will repay with more energy.

I feel tired just reading it! I have COPD and bronchiactasis and that’s enough to handle. So my heartfelt sympathy for the other ailments too. Exacerbations do knock me out and it now seems to take longer to get back to base. I take one steroid a day which helps though of course I am now worried about thinning skin. There seems no end to it. Maybe slob in your recliner but write the alphabet in the air with each foot. Might help circulation a little.
